Dear members,

recently acquired this Polerouter

and now I'm looking for a metal bracelet for it:

Original UG ones (Gay Freres / JB Champion) are hard to find so I thought I start with non branded one.

I never owned a JB Champion bracelet so far and so I would love to hear some feedback from you:

Found this two ones for sale right now:

JB Champion, length 15,5 cm, lug width 16-19

"JB Champion" (?) Lug width 18mm

Both are around 60€, the end links of the second one seem to be more similar to the 'Original JB Champion' than the first one.

Are those stretch bracelets or is the length fixed and you can adjust the length in the clasp?

Is there anything I have to check before I buy one of these?

Thanks for looking!

I don't recommend bracelets with spring-loaded endlinks, like the first one.

Yes, fixed length not stretch with a degree of adjustment via the clasp.

What lug width do your Polerouter have?
Most Polerouters/Polarouters have 19mm so thats why finding a good JB Champion substitute bracelet with curved end links is quite hard to do!

I thougt they were all 18mm... ::facepalm1::

I have a non-original UG-branded JB Champion from the ''70s that came with my UG Evil Nina. It is decent quality but too light for my taste, so I do not use it.

This is my feeling in general about vintage bracelets. I also have original UG bracelets (and UM end links) for my Polerouter Subs and Space Compax along with an original Rolex Oyster bracelet for my 1971 1655 Explorer, none of which feel secure enough for me to be comfortable wearing outside the house.

Vintage bracelets are indeed lighter weight than the anchor chains that are currently in vogue. However, unless they are badly damaged or stretched out, they are perfectly serviceable and safe to use. Some people may not like the way they feel, but they are secure. They were used for decades and there was no epidemic of watches falling off of wrists. All bracelets have a weak point, but it's not usually the actual links.

Personally, I find vintage bracelets with folded links to be very comfortable.

Hi,

I hv one Polerouter that came with a branded JB Champion beacelet. U have a few adjustments on the clasp. The bracelet itself can be shortened but its not easy.

Lugs are 17mm on my non-Genta Polerouter.

Get one metal bracelet if you find a decent one. They are confortable and look the part. These JB bracelet were only offered in the US as far as I know.

Good points, Dan. A bit of personal preference, I guess. The combination of lighter construction/weight and typical age-related stretch don't work for me. I thought I would like them but could never get used to them, so they all sit in storage. May be time to sell so others can use them.
