So this Polerouter is advertised as being in 14K white gold... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-G...224111119?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3381fc0c0fPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network ...presumably on the basis of these inside caseback markings Yet shouldn't white gold have the same hallmarks as yellow gold? So the head of Helvetia should be replaced by a squirrel, no? And what's up with the bear, or lion or hairy pig? I know there's a bear for 0.875 silver, but it's rampant not passant. Is there hanky panky afoot or do I need to be set straight? Anyone ever seen a white gold Polerouter?
...and just to wrap up the analysis, no markings on the case proper (an 18K case for comparison is stamped in the back of two lugs). So I gather we all agree these are some bogus hallmarks stamped into the back of a regular old steel Polerouter. Upon reflection, it's surprising that this doesn't happen more often - what could be easier?
Here is a white UGP: Polerouter Date, Cal 1-69, 18K white gold, diamond dial (12 pcs. 8/8), approx 1968. Here are pics for future reference (pics belongs to Kaplans auctions) :
