I was just chuffed for @CafeRacer getting a shout out in that article for his fantastic new Polerouter website. You’ve been ‘dinked!

About £12,000 all in? Less than I thought it might go for... did you win it?

Less than I thought too but not me this time. My Polerouter budget was not sufficiently healthy.

That’s three significant Polerouter auctions in a row now which have closed with arguably quite underwhelming hammer prices. I wonder if some of the wider mania has passed.

Although a little less than I had anticipated, it's still a decent price on reflection.

What's the market price of a standard gold Polerouter De Luxe 10234-1? £2,000?

Perhaps, but in a wider market where arguably mundane, mass produced, steel sports watches sell for big bucks, £12,000 for a genuine rarity with interesting history still seems a rather paltry figure. Either that, or exposure to the likes of Hodinkee has fostered an impression that if it costs less than the average yearly salary, a watch is 'cheap'
