For those who missed the latest Hodinkee BAL there's a Polerouter Deluxe SAS up for auction: http://da.auction2000.se/auk/w.Object?inC=DA&inA=20190227_1023&inO=13 I am sure @styggpyggeno1 is following this closely...
I was just chuffed for @CafeRacer getting a shout out in that article for his fantastic new Polerouter website. You’ve been ‘dinked!
That’s three significant Polerouter auctions in a row now which have closed with arguably quite underwhelming hammer prices. I wonder if some of the wider mania has passed.
Although a little less than I had anticipated, it's still a decent price on reflection. What's the market price of a standard gold Polerouter De Luxe 10234-1? £2,000?
Perhaps, but in a wider market where arguably mundane, mass produced, steel sports watches sell for big bucks, £12,000 for a genuine rarity with interesting history still seems a rather paltry figure. Either that, or exposure to the likes of Hodinkee has fostered an impression that if it costs less than the average yearly salary, a watch is 'cheap'
