There was a very nice Universal Geneve Polarouterwith black dial Ref. 20217-4 for auction at WoK.
    Was hammered for 4.800 GBP

Very nice watch, but I´m surprised of the closing bid. Seems to be a strong price.

    Seems very strong to me.
But having said that... where would you find another in that condition?
Its not like you can just go and pick a Pola from Chrono24 or dealers... ::confused2:: (unfortunately!)

I'm not a Universal expert but a Polarouter in good condition is still under 1000 pounds.
    What's so special about this?

Ah, you were the seller - congrats!

The hammer price certainly surpassed my expectations but there are very few of these around and even fewer in this condition.

Polerouter prices in general seem to be on the rise. I think historically they have been undervalued - they seem to have always been on the "Best watches for $1000" type lists. In addition, I think the work done by @CafeRacer to catalogue the myriad of different Polerouter references will have stirred up interest and attracted collectors and the forthcoming Polerouter GTG may also be a factor.

    PolArouter, not PolErouter.
They were only produced for a few months like this before they changed the name. Approx 100 or less of each reference made in 1954, if the serial nrs tell the truth. If it were more mainstream manufacturer produced in those numbers, you probably can imagine what the valuations would be...

Please forgive my churlish remark. I had not appreciated that you had not picked up on the difference.

That said, it's difficult to find all original PolErouters in good condition for £1,000.

also i do think polerouter valuations are on the rise but more so the date versions with the Genta trapezoidal date window. . rare birds just sold a great one at a very high price nearly instantly

I'm getting on the train too. I guess we have to split the watches now.

I just bought a 204604-8 without the twisted lugs( which I think is a very important Polerouter feature).
I am not sure if these are going to go up in value as well...

I don't think this is specific to this model.
Condition is everything => price is only money ;-)
A Microtor Gold plated Polerouter in NOS and full set went for 2800 euros recently.

I'll bet you are right, but there are strict restrictions on who can sell here. and my 20217-2 doesn't qualify
