My father gave this to me over 40 years ago but I have no idea where he got it from, or it’s age, make, value, etc? Any input would be welcome.

    Sterling silver case.

Need to see the movement though.

Your second to last picture shows a tab. That should be involved in someway on a dust cover on the movement.

There is no way to tell you anything without a movement shot on this piece.

I do think it's a British case from the hallmarks. And some research into hallmarks could give a date range.

    :edit:

I believe after digging its a swiss case imported to the UK from 1887-1903.

Many thanks Foo2rama for coming back to me. I’ll have a look to see if I can easily get the dust cover off. I was hoping that the 16459 stamp was the movement number but are you saying this is this the case number? Do you think the *JJ* is the maker?

In this case most likely the importer I think, but it could be the maker.

The 3 bears and .935 is definitely a Swiss made for the British market case. Import stamps from an U.K. Import office don't start till 1908 so my time frame is correct.

Hard to tell without movement what you have.

You were right! I didn’t know that the dust cover just swung back! Picture of the movement -

It's unmarked and not decorated. So not likely a lot of value in it.

I could go digging in a movement database for the movement maker but it's not really going to tell you anything more.

It's a neat piece and family heirloom that any decent watchmaker that does more then battery changes can fix.

Nice piece of history, but the value in my opinion it's not to high.

Lepine caliber, cylinder escapement, Swiss, typical mid-19th Century. Dial is a work of art, but the movement was obsolete the day it was made. Some Swiss makers stuck with this design of movement for decades after the lever escapement was adopted by most watchmakers.

Thank you all very much for your input. Would have been nice if it had been worth a fortune but I wouldn't sell it anyway as it was given to me by my Father and my daughter has put her name on it! Considering it's likely to be over 100 years old and the fact that it hasn't been serviced (to my knowledge) in over 40 years they must have known what they were doing as it still works a treat with just a few winds of the key!

Canuck is right on target. That chain is gorgeous, it and the case are very nice.

was going to tell you the lift tab cut out is very close to the lever there for the case. I am a bit of a pocketwatch collector, and these generally go for $75-130 on the bay. .935 is a bit higher then sterling. beautiful movement! does she run?
