Pocket Watch from Japan

My wife’s family gave me this pocket watch that could be from her grandfather or great grandfather. I’m not sure what kind this is. Anyone have an idea?

Have you had a look inside yet?
No I haven’t. I don’t know how nor am sure if it would be okay to since I’ve never had a watch.

Do I just pop the back open and after, close it?

It looks like a screw back. But take no chances, ask a local watchmaker to open it.
