    here a bit more information:
inside case reads: OMEGA WATCH CO. FAB.SUISSE,SWISS MADE, ACIER INOX, HF, 145022-71 ST

the serial number on the 861 caliber is: 31.000.xxx

how does the watch check out for you guys?

thx, I really *appreciate* your input here

    cheers, Al

I'm thinking you would recoup an awful lot of the purchase price if you sold the bezel and replaced it with a DNN bezel, which would be correct for the years the 71 was produced.

I would sell the watch and wear the bezel.

    Strange.

As above, everything looks correct for a 71, step dial, case back, serial, except the DoN bezel is from the 69 or earlier. Luckily the bezel is worth several times the cost of the correct one.

31.000.xxx I know are all -69 refs and produced end of 1970, thus unlikely to be a -71 version. But has to be checked.

Ah. I thought 31xxxxxx spilled over into '71.

Presumably even '69s with a serial this high would have had a DNN bezel?

To the OP, maybe try to get an extract to help determine whether that caseback is original to the watch or not.

Don't forget it's generally a great idea to inspect movement before jumping in....if possible. But a nice watch overall

For this I'd review serial number and inscription inside the caseback, for a speedy verification

That's the issue though, isn't it? Movement number in 31,000,xxx doesn't fit with a -71 caseback (from speedy4ever)

So MWO and charts (Maddox) agree? Done. I wouldn't go further. Another possibility is to get a correct caseback later ... No?

Before any useful conclusions can be drawn, I think we need the case back reference, the first four serial digits, and sight of the movement.

This may well be a border example. I would agree that the DO90 bezel might be a later addition. Or it could be the case back was replaced, or it could just be an assembly.

It could be anything, especially since we dont know what is inside.

I suspect it is a nice watch and worth buying

stop posting and buy it... it looks great. bezel is sweet and worth mucho dinero, rest of the watch looks equally nice.

Given all the current information (and the do90 bezel) what would a "logical " price range be for this piece?

    Cheers and again the

the seller wants $3.0 - 3.3k (well, he wants flatout 3.3k, but you know that speel :D)

how does that sound in the greater scheme of things? (never went that high with a watch, thats why I have slightly soft knees)

    cheers, Al

If you don't buy it give me the seller's info ;)

The bezel alone is worth a significant proportion of that asking price; I'd say it's worth it especially since the bracelet appears original too.

Just a little ínput/confirmation on the ´70 vs ´71 production. I have been looking into the matter for some time, since I was seeking a Speedy produced in the first days of january 1971.
    I don't think that you will find a much earlier 1971 speedy ;-) It's a 145.022-69 pre-moon caseback and with a 220 Bezel. Serial 31.003.7xx
