Hi guys , i recently bought a seamster from a trusted watch dealer in Manchester, Being a bit of a watch geek i'd love to find out roughly when my watch was made. i've seen adverts from similar looking watches for sale with the year 1966 however my watch still has a bit of lume that will glow when charged (which i'm assuming wouldn't happen if it was from the 60's) maybe it has had a relume but i'd be surprised if that was the case. Any Help would be much appreciated, Thank you

This looks like a crosshair 166.010 (end 60's).

It looks like a 166.010 with 565 movement, in which case 1966 is about right. A nice example, gold or gold cap?

T on this model is possible. 60's with T is no problemo .

    Almost 100% certain it's a 166.010. But in 99% of the cases I'm wrong.

I believe it's a 166.010 as said before and that your idea of 1966 sounds good.

I don't believe it's a relume. It seems to be vintage. While the lume of the hour hand looks a bit strange, the minute has lost some tritium near the tip. And it's absolutely possible that tritium glows a little bit when charged even today. Do you have a UV lamp / torch? The tritium should glow under UV light.

The watch looks very nice IMHO.

I'm only an enthusiast, not an expert. I'm not disputing or contradicting anything said, only trying to learn about watches.

It was my understanding that the lume on these is applied from the hand's underside, yet I seem to see some smeared on top, wouldn't this indicate a relume at some point, quite common, and account for the luminescence some 50 years on?

the photo I took does show it to have some lume on the top of the hand however in person it doesn't look like that, I'll try to send a macro shot of the hands

So we are at least two here... :)

Thank you for your comment. I was trying to answer the OP's question as good as possible and stated what I can see.

What does look suspicious about the lume is that it seems to be a little bit shiny here and there. But the missing lume in the minute hand along with the overall very good condition of the watch guided my opinion to what I stated.

Since I was not 100% sure myself, I recommended to do the UV check.

    As soon as I think I know what I know, I find I don't know what I don't know!
    You know?

So you must be a real enthusiast.

I know that I don't know what I should know, but I find that knowing this is better than knowing nothing more than thinking to know something I don't know... :)
