    Hi all,

I'm looking at a vintage Speedy Pro, and it appears to be from the late 1960s/early 1970s. I've done as much research as I can, and after showing some pictures to Al, he thinks it is a 145.022. This is the closest piece I have been able to locate online to the one in question, but the caseback on this one has the engraving, and the caseback on the Speedy in question does not – has it potentially been over-polished?

Anyway, I'll attach all of the photos. Unfortunately, no pictures of the movement – I know, it sucks. It would make identifying this a heck of a lot easier.

Thank you so, SO much for the help. I couldn't do this without you guys!

    Jeff

145.022-71 used these, but they were also used in the 80's, 90's.

On the inside of the bracelet there is a 4 over 71, this was manufactured in the 4th quarter of 1971. If this bracelet is origional to the watch this would put it at ~1971/1972ish

Thanks for all the help! Any idea what value you'd put on this piece?

Also, is the caseback something to be concerned about? I haven't seen any other casebooks without the engraving around the hippocampus.

I don't think that is a 145.022 caseback. The indentations for the opening tool are too far from the bevel on the caseback.

It doesn't look like a 145.022 caseback to me, either. I can't identify what caseback this is at all!

Edit: I think I found what caseback this is.

    "1957 Re-Edition Speedmaster:

This "Non-Moon" engraved modern caseback was affixed to the 1957 "Broad Arrowed" Re-Edition of the original 1957 Speedmaster. The name "re-edition is a bit of a misnomer, because while the watch has a superficial resemblence to the original 1957, the closer one looks the more it becomes apparent that the Re-Edition has next to nothing that is exactly like the original 1957 model, the Bezel, hands, dial, case, caseback, bracelet, even the crystal, crown and pushers are different from the original. But it has a 1957 Retro look to it."

At this point you should try an get a pic of the inside.
These case backs were used on 4 different speedy references in the early 1970s. 80s, 90s and 2000s. Get the inside stamp and it could be looked up in the Moon Watch Only book

I'll do what I can. I only have about an hour to make the decision (that's when the auction ends). I don't think I'll have the opportunity to see the caseback number before I make the purchase.

Hopefully it's a decent buy. Seems like almost no Speedy Pro these days goes for less than $2k.
