I do a bit of traveling across time zones and have been thinking about getting a GMT primarily for travel. I like the Seamaster ref. 22345000, but wouldn't mind a touch of gold, such as the 24982000. I already have several Omegas, though, so I would also consider another brand. Just looking for suggestions. Let's keep the price under $4000. Preowned is fine, in fact preferable.

Yes, the Rolexes are too pricey for me. Even the used 1675 tips my budget. I have been researching this for a couple days and I am really leaning toward the Omega 50th anniversary 22345000. Lots of the. Available in the $2000 range. Any comments on this particular model?
If it were me, I would take the 2538.20 over the 2234.50. Having said that, if you could swing the 16700 (emilio), I think that would be the best bet. It's a classic, bullet proof and will hold it's value better over time.
Nomos Zurich Weltzeit (travel time) and Grand Seiko GMT (automatic or spring drive) can be had for less than or around 4k in the second hand markets. They are much less conspicuous than a Rolex or Omega for your travels and do not give any ground in terms of quality.
So I have narrowed it down to these two reference numbers: 2234.50.00 and 2534.50.00. They appear to be the same, except for the bracelet and the 2534 has anti reflective coating on the crystal. Am I missing anything else?
Very helpful. Thanks. I think I have found a 2234 full kit. Can anyone tell me how to do a serial number lookup so I can check the authenticity?
You can't. But if you send me a PM with the serial number I will have a look. Note that some older serial numbers don't work, but I'll see what I can see... Cheers, Al
Well, I decided on the 2234 and found one at a great price over on WUS. The watch is in near new condition and has all the original boxes, cards, etc. Thank you everyone for your input, especially Al who helped me out with a serial number check. I'm very pleased. Here's a quick pic.
