Have the case back removed and write down the #'s on the movement and the #'s on inside of case back. The caliber # will be a three digit #....the serial # on the movement an eleven digit #. The model reference # on the inside of case back will probably be a four digit # followed by a dash and another #. With this information I can tell more about your watch. Attractive automatic Seamaster with nice textured dial, but dial has been refinished. Please post information so I can give more details. By the way, what is the diameter of case not including crown (in millimeters please)?
Looks like a ref 14700 and should contain a cal 552 24-jewel movement, 33.6-mm, ca early 1960s. The dial has been refinished to a not very good standard, fonts and print spacing are off. Case appears to be in good shape, a proper restoration of the dial would make it much nicer.
And I fear the employee who installed the balance staff did not work his entire career at Omega, so it is virtually worthless.
I think this one might have a 55X based on the case style, but I've never seen one with a waffle dial.
Doesn't feel like a thumping. I hear a zing though. That's the only thing when I move it around. How long is the turn around time to sending this watch off to omega for restoration, est.
I am located in the Norflok, Virginia area. I also have this watch that is in need of some attention, so I do want to go somewhere reputable who does better than good work.
Well that's an interesting bracelet, do you know the story behind that piece? As an Australian I have no idea what it commemorates. As for servicing, try sending a PM to Steve / N2FHL -> http://omegaforums.net/members/n2fhl.493/ as you can imagine being a an Omega forum, we have several members that are watchmakers, Steve's close by and is commonly trusted with many vintage Omegas including precious ones. He'd probably be fine doing the other one too. Dennis / Ulackfocus has his email somewhere
I inherited it from both from my grandpa, who received them from his father. The Lord Elgin watch was given to the players of the MLB 1961 All Star game, my great grandpa was on the team.
Okay, you gotta tell us who your great grandfather was! (Send me a message if you don't want it public)
I'm going to GUESS with the only baseball player I know by name (Since I am Australian)... and say Babe Ruth
