    Hi all,

does anybody of you have watches from these references:

    2189 and 14179 ?

I would be thankful to receive info and good photos about these references.
On the internet I found only a straight on photo of each of them, no profile view or an image of the back, if it is pressure shut or screw down, etc.

The ref. 2189 was mentioned in the Brasilian AD about the models with the red star (Teddington)...

    2189_AD.jpg

Any assistance is much appreciated - thanks a lot in advance.

    best

thank you very much for your assistance - but unfortunately this linked thread does not help at all...

The collective ignorance in that thread was a bit frustrating to say the least...

The watch looks like a solid gold chronometer case of ref 2366 but with a different slim bezel, so no way it is a 2189, which has a two parts case

And finally the extract showed completely different description: wrong case number, wrong metal (steel and not gold!)

So my conclusion: a put together watch all the way - but I must admit the dial is very nice.

    Gordon,

    thank you for the link.

The yellow gold one from Antiquorum I knew already.

The rose gold one from Christies describes a Cal. 285 which should be a center second movement - but the photo clearly shows sub-second.
I also doubt the size of 39mm - maybe including the crown? 37,5 mm is more reasonable for this kind of watch I think.
I think these auction houses are pretty sloppy with their descriptions...

I assume this is the straight-on photo that you mention? A claimed 2189-2 (included here for reference):

Yes, this is the one from Instagram.

I tried to contact the owner but he did not respond.

From the 2 photos I have seen now I am confident it is a two-parts case (no detachable bezel).

The question which remains: does it have a pressure shut case back or a screw down?

I tend to believe the latter

I have 2 specimen of 2169 which look virtually the same and both have screw down case backs.

But it could well be the difference to the 2189 which could still have a snap back...

There will remain this uncertainty until I can see a photo of the back (or at least a clear side view).

Thank you both for your contributions.

    Hoi,

thanks a lot for this additional photo and the confirmation of a screw back (as I supposed).
I would appreciate if you went to your big vault for additional photos.

I still do not know the difference between 2169 and 2189 - they look the same, have the same movement, same size,...

well, maybe the profile is a bit different? I am curious to see some more details.

    kind regards

    Hi Erich.
Mike's watch and mine are the same, they don't have reference number stamped inside the case back and we "think" they are 2189.
I hope Mike knows more than me about them and if you are interested to get more pics, I am happy to get them when I am back home.
    Best.

The watch you show is a ref 2242 and does not have something in common with 2189

    Hoi,

some more pics would be appreciated very much.

As I already mentioned, for my old eyes ref. 2169 and 2189 virtually look the same ( as far as I can tell from the only straight shots of 2189 I have seen so far). I would like to see the watch from the back and other different angles to be able to find out differences - in case there are some visible ones.

Here is my confirmed (by the museum) 2169, all original and near NOS

    CK 2169.jpg

I have already contacted the Omega museum - they do not have any photo of 2189 in the archive.
The only facts they came up with:
    1) it has a two parts case,
    2) diameter of "bezel" opening (better described as opening for the crystal as there is no bezel) is 32mm - so we can extrapolate the case diameter should be 35 mm.
Thats all I know for sure.

Right now all I have is a pic from outside of the case back. I think it is the original case back of the watch with the serial number stamped outside of it. I am not sure that Mike's is the same or not.

Rather than faff about with Railmaster retreads and ever more Speedie LEs/variations, Omega needs to reissue this (no larger than 38mm, in SS and with a slim movement)

    It really is gorgeous ::love::
