looking to buy a speedy. It is withbox and Papers. The serial number starts with 38. The back is a see-through. How do I confirm that the front and the back are sapphire? I also see that the Lumes are disappearing, especially at the 3 o’clock. The owner says this was purchased in 2006. Is it worth buying if I get a good price?

U sure it starts with 38? That sounds like speedy from 70s. 2006 I think the serial starts with 78.

That serial should start with at least a 48, or somewhere around there. With the very limited information we've been given, this is either a more modern watch (late 80's-mid 90's), with a mid/late 70's movement in it - or a mid/late 70's watch that have been "serviced" and gotten a new dial, bezel, and hands. My gut tells me the latter is more likely.

I would generally say that this is not something that would be desirable to me.

Some more pics. Is it a good deal if I buy for modding?

Yeah, I think this is a 145.022-74 or -76, but has had it's bezel replaced (and probably the hands too, hard to tell), and then someone put a display back case on it to try to make it look fancier. The front crystal is not sapphire, but the non-original back is.

As to it being a good deal for modding question, I have no idea what modding you would be doing and you haven't told us the price, but given that its currently at $2,147 with several days still left, it's very unlikely you're going to get a good deal on this.
