I recently aquired this Zenith Chrono Automatic, A386.

Yes, I belive I have the Holy Grail here, except for the watch caseback.

My watch appears to be a Mark III, everything original, Dial (A over H), crown (large circle), Tach (Elongated “C”) Movement correct (3019 PHC 31j).

    So my issue is twofold:
1). The caseback features the NATO Star, But lacks the serial number.
2). The flip side of the caseback features the proper stamps except for the “SP#”

Any and all advice will be appreciated! Thank you in advance, Darryl BD20099A-5D38-4224-9398-91C51353D0B6.jpeg 05B6D8B4-E0B7-4F67-BA2A-B374093D5152.jpeg 41BF29DE-04BB-43AA-BB88-D6695A3AAE1B.jpeg E0CDD569-2BF7-4030-AF6B-89FDA3A635DF.jpeg E406E1BD-CE59-465F-8352-7713A164BFC5.jpeg 57A5E1D7-01ED-4589-858C-4ACBE5524F38.jpeg 7CD0BEF0-70E0-41B8-AE85-D1A1DBD92359.jpeg 5CCC12A2-41D2-4319-92E4-8A59BBD54C0E.jpeg

Maybe the case number is just polished away.

The back does look worn enough where case number has just been rubbed off by wear.
    Looks very nice!

Thank you, but what about the lack of the SP number inside the caseback?

If you search the forum here, there was a case of a person who purchased an a386 from Matt Bain that had a Zenith, yet incorrect caseback. It's a tale so I will let you find the source material, but a hypothesis could be that at some point the caseback on your a386 was replaced with another Zenith caseback that fit, but is not the caseback original to your watch.

End links are uncorrect and look 18mm
Same opinion about caseback, all watch is original but too much worn.

Very nice A386, my mk3's serial was partially worn so I would not worry. Try to look for rests with a 10x loupe
