Hey Guys, I'd appreciate your views on potential damage that may have been caused when I inadvertently wore my Planet Ocean in a very hot tub.

I didn't realise for a while, but my watch had stopped working. If shook, it came back to life for just a few seconds. Now, 2 days later, it's working again and so far, keeping good time.

I’d appreciate your views on this before I put it in for service.

    Thanks,

    Mebion.

Could be the movement expanded due to the heat and knocked everything off kilter?

Put ice on the crystal for 20 seconds and see if it fogs up.

Hot tubs and showers are a bad idea the heat is bad for the gaskets.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to see if our good friend @Archer could chime in on this one ...

How hot does a hot tub get? 50-55°c I'd guess...

Also I assume you wore it on your wrist (@ say 30deg c) so the watch should not have gotten Warmer than 45 Celsius ... So not really a reason for it to Stop.

Here is a £300 Steinhart being boiled for 3 mins

A quick update, the watch when worn is still coming to a halt! I'm guessing it's in for a service on my return to the UK:(

Again wearing it on your wrist should act as a temperature buffer

    Questions,
    What planet Ocean model?
    How old?
When was it last pressure tested?

Have you tried winding it 50-60 times, or do you just "shake it" to get it moving? If the latter, then it might not be the hot tub and you just never powered it up enough to begin with and it finally ran out of power. An automatic watch merely maintains the power in the spring -- you've got to wind it up first.

Never thought a hot tub's water temperature can cause damage to a watch. I have worn a few different watches in a hot tub the last few years, a PO GMT GoodPlanet and a PO 2500. I will certainly think twice before doing so again.

Hi Donn, you know in all the years I've owned this watch after initially winding it, it's never been wound other than by it's automatic mechanism. I'll give that a try, fingers crossed :)

Well, duh! It's a "Planet OCEAN" not a "Planet HOT TUB". What, did you think you were in some B movie? :p

If i were you, first thing i would do is hack the movement to prevent further damage and have the watch checked asap. Better be safe than sorry.

I don't think hot tubs should be a problem, maybe it had problems with waterproof in the begging with. Wouldn't go to sauna with it tho...

Good to hear. I was hoping it was just that simple of a problem. Still, to be on the safe side, I'd take it in to have a pressure test if you haven't done one in awhile.
