Hello all! I just thought I'd post this here. I've never seen this stamp on a Tri-Compax before, the dealer claims it's 'very rare to see this 1894 stamp' on this watch. If anyone can speak to its authenticity please let me know! Thanks.
to be fair I have never seen it either but the overall "feeling" of the dial is good, especially the fonts look ok. That being said there are another couple of peculiarity to it that might (and I stress might) ring some alarm bells: - the 31 in the date subial is black and not red - the font in the hour subdial at 6 o'clock is a little bit "strong" and "thick", certainly thicker than the rest Given the serial number I would place this to 1949 or even 1950 and hence perhaps by this time the 31 started to be also in black, hard to say. For sure, in case the dial has been some how refinished or even worse reprinted, it is a very old (and in general very good) job as the dial has certainly aged.
I've never seen the 1894 before either. I have seen many versions with non-red 31's, including the version of the 12295 in sala.
Moonface without face I believe is OK, serial is right at the beginning of when the moon should not have face anymore
Thanks for all your help. I'm currently in Italy and am hoping for a good find! Everything in Switzerland was either a redial or was too expensive unfortunately.
