Ok, I've seen plenty of nice waffle dials since arriving here. And I've seen plenty of stunning gold pie pan dials too, but a pie pan gold and black waffle cross? This can't be right can it?

Yes, in my opinion this 14381 has a genuine dial. I have seen these over the years, not a lot of them, but enough to confirm to me that it's a genuine dial from the early 60s. Hands are wrong, as is crown, but a nice uncommon piece to own nevertheless.

    Cheers

Yes, with a piecelike that, I would have scoured the parts drawer to get everything right :)

I agree. It is a nice piece all the same and the dial has to be very uncommon in that condition.

16 rejected offers. Why have a "Best Offer" option if you obviously aren't going to come off your asking price that much?

Steve & I watched a waffle center railroad dial Connie last week. It was nice, but not nice enough to crack open the piggy bank. Same with this watch. The caseback was probably a victim of somebody who was inexperienced with a caseback tool - look at how polished it is around the perimeter.

I think the crown could be original, but not the hands. I've seen many US market Constellations with this style of crown. Since this has a 14K case, I'll assume it was first sold somewhere in North America.

That's interesting Gator. Did these case makers ever produce catalogs with photographs of their range that may one day turn up somewhere? That would make an interesting resource.

It seems that many sellers on the bay are not really selling, just advertising with their wanker reserves (taken from the coined phrases thread, I've wanted to use it since I saw it :D) What value would you place on this one Dennis? I thought the asking price was not entirely crazy considering how rare the dial is or are the non-Swiss cased models not valued as much as the normal models?

Given the condition - wrong hands and over polished, I'd say somewhere closer to $2400-ish (give or take a couple hundred depending on how bad somebody wants it). While I like the dial and might even have correct length hands laying around somewhere, I don't have a nice crisp case for it. Who does?

.....well, maybe Mike or Erich. :p

I took a good look at it and I wouldn't buy it.

Much of the case and the medallion are in decent shape, polished some on the backs edges. Not priced well for the US though.

I was thinking the same about that crown. I've seen too many 14381's with the same identical crown. Here's my 14381 fitted with the same crown.

Crown is correct, case has wear/been polished and is for me borderline acceptable. And while I have a nicer case of the same model, it is currently being used in a watch!

I agree . If the piece was shipped to North America, the crown is most likley to be as shown.

It is not really tempting to me (back polished and high price...) - and I am not that Conny guy... sorry to disappoint you
I have 2 de luxe and one grand luxe Conny and this is enough for me.

I rather spend my money on earlier pieces, e.g. 30 mm chronometers, and even earlier down to rectangulars from the 30ies and even 20ies -
I have a weakness for art deco design...

    regards
    Erich
