One of the nicest 353s I handled case-sharpness-wise , and the dial is pretty much perfect! Even came with a Tissot rivet bracelet. :) The only thing that is odd is that the caseback is not the right 2627, but rather a 2635 which I believe should have a 351 in it. If the movement is in such great shape and it really looks like a minimally worn watch, why would they replace the caseback? ::confused2:: There don't seem to be any service markings on this caseback either.

    Before I cleaned it:

Light polishing and getting off that gunk!

    With my other 353 2627...

I was also considering getting a clear caseback made out of the 2635 caseback since it's not a reference I'm really looking to add. It fits, and it would look really good with that movement. Does it sound like a good idea? And yes I'm keeping the crystal, it's original. :p

Nice watch. I really do like the date at 6.

Side note: why did Omega stop making them?

Can i ask Why did you buy it if there was an issue with caseback matching calibre?

How do you get a clear caseback made? How much does that cost?

Took a chance on this one, there were no caseback photos but I had a feeling that it would be a nice one. I kind of expected the movement to be in really nice condition from the sharpness of the case but I wasn't expecting a different caseback. I've done this before and never had any problems. ;) I'm looking into the cost of a clear caseback, I'll let you know when I find out.

Costs about 150 to covert it to a display back...

I'm fascinated by this idea. Who have you asked? What's the process - does it destroy a caseback or do they machine a new one? Id have a display back on every single one of mine if I could...

Thanks Lou! Ended up sticking it on my moldy Constellation, it looks a little better. :)

I asked Jack at international watch works. It takes about 4-6 weeks and the back has to be at least .75mm thick. I'm guessing they stamp out a hole and find away to keep the crystal stable.

At that price it would be using the present crystal. I suspect making one from scratch - quantity of #1 - would cost a lot more.

Oh...yeah, it would be 150 to convert a stock caseback. I was thinking about using this one and then finding the right 2627 eventually.

I have had a small number of display backs made, and have a hard time imagining a really fine job being done for anywhere near $150. Perhaps I am wrong, but I paid quite a bit more for mine, and the quality of work was superb. (Note that mine are machined from scratch, and the originals are preserved.)

Hi Tony. Good to see you here. We need some more Longines pictures around this place.

We were talking to Hoi a while back about getting a production run of displaybacks made for these constellation and seamaster cases, being made in Vietnam he would be able to have them priced very competitively.

A production run would of course bring down costs considerably.

    Hi

    I like that....infact I really like that....

So , what are the chances of sourcing a really good example Seamaster Calendar , fantastic dial & dauphine type handset with correct bracelet in Gold or SS (with box & papers would be nice !) & what would you expect to pay ?

    Suggestions & comments please....

    Best - Neil
