Well I must have been out of the loop for a while, the internet and forums seems to be a changing landscape these days with many socially leading Photo Forums dead, dying or on life support.

DPREVIEW seems to have been placed on life support after being slated for close down and Imaging Resources also disappeared for a while dead in its tracks.
Thankfully Imaging Resources is back in a read only form to act as a historical resource.
Is it cell phones? is it Social media ( Tik Tok, FB blah blah blah) I don't know but we are certainly not as informed as much as we were but a few years ago? Is this the future of Watch Forums also?

I noticed the same actually - a lot of people migrating over to YouTube rather than dedicated forums.

As our general population grows younger, all they are interested in is a 30 second snippet of a cat chasing a dog or something as mindless.
Sitting in front of a screen and reading well structured critiques, interesting articles etc seems to be beyond their attention span.

Let them have their FB, TikTok, Youtube etc, I'm happy with a place like this.

Haven't visited dp review in some time so really sad to hear that it's on life support. Spent a lot of time on that site at one point in my life when I was really active in photography.

It kind of depends on the site, I think with a lot of watches, especially vintage there’s often a need for deeper discussion that can’t quite fit into most social media options, and then there’s also a need to stay current and evolve. We’re lower than the peaks during covid but still very strong, while the sister site tagheuerforums is hitting new peaks at the moment and still growing.

A lot of the automotive forums I'm on are slowly dying or already have. Everything is migrating to social media, which I dispose.
DPReview...that is a blast from the past holy cow! I haven't thought about that site in dang near 15 years!

Forums are also social media platforms...but yes I believe that watch discussions will move to other types of social media, and in many cases it's already happened. I know of one forum in particular that had robust traffic and in depth discussions, became a shell once a FB page was made.

I have a Facebook Group that I and another Man Admin. We have 24,500 Members (not followers) Most joined based solely on my Photography that I have loaded there for approx. 12 years now. So many image sites are suffering now due directly to mobile cells. Majority of persons just stare at a 4 by 6 inch image for 3 seconds. Mean while most images I load are 16 inches by 20 inches in the format I use and software. Plus also so, so many are only interested in the likes, comments and share's their own content get's. I also run a Forum that is certainly not a competing "Watches" forum that has just over 6000 Members, also very slow going and only going downward at some point. Times have changed. Cannot tell you all the Pro Photographers that are buying all the new mirrorless 3000 dollar Cameras, when frankly "no one cares anymore" Just my opinion. I own 4 Cameras that when brand new amounts to 7000plus dollars . Could get 2 or 3 nice vintage Omegas for that much! I keep doing photography because of my passion for artistic creation.

I don't think traditional photography will completely disappear, a bit of morphing from the Cell phone aspect is going on with some I am sure graduating to APS-C or Full frame.
Was looking at the Sony Shop yesterday ( Bricks and Mortar ) and was shocked at the asking price for the A1 and A9 cameras probably professionals are propping those prices up but I suspect part of it is affluent Cell phone users wanting to get next level.
But of course Cell phones are seriously cutting into camera sales, myself I have a range of nice top end Sony and Canon, Panasonic interchangeable lens cameras that any one would be proud to own and use but I still mostly just use my cell phone as its always with me.
Probably will buy the new upcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra with its bigger (rumoured) than 1 inch sensor with optical zoom (4 or 10 times) and 200 Megapixel. The advantage of these is the huge amount of digital processing now available in such a modest package which few older style cameras packed in.

Changing times but as I say its unlikely that traditional cameras will be redundant any time soon.
