All yours: estimate $50-100,000, and I reckon that's under by a big margin

This is wild . . . the speedy tuesday is probably the closest I'll get to owning a radial dial speedy.

Wow. Just wow. I didn't realize there were ANY of these in private hands. Yeah, I wouldn't make an estimate myself, but this is going to bring out both the NASA and the Speedmaster collectors. I knew there were extra Radial dials, but I didn't think that any of the actual prototypes were out there other than in a vault at NASA.

Does this come with de-commissioning papers I wonder?

Last time I checked, selling NASA articles without them was a Federal crime...

It is not issued to Nasa. There were some of these diaks floating around and placed into cases and sold out. Without the provenance of space I personally dont really care for it

Is “SED12100312-301” not a nasa serial on the case back?

". Fifty-six were ordered by NASA and issued to astronauts, with a further batch being ordered soon after. The present lot is of the latter batch, and has not been issued."

I'm still reading that as bought by NASA even if not issued.

Was just curious how/why this comes to be for sale... curious stuff.

IMHO this lot might not sell as expected :whistling:

There are several radial dials installed in 76/78 Moonwatches - this isn’t as simple as that. In Switzerland only 2 or 3 of those have appeared ever afaik and always sold in the highest discretion :)

So, @DB1983 sold this one (if I'm reading this right)?

    https://www.fratellowatches.com/omega-speedmaster-professional-radial-dial-1978/

And this one that got "borrowed" later went up for sale at auction from what @Robert-Jan said on last weeks podcast:

What's the most expensive speedmaster ever sold at auction? This should be in the running

Personally, I'd much rather have a racing dial than this one. I dont find the dial very attractive but the history is a plus

So this is the same watch that was highlighted from Roy and Sacha Davidoff at Fratello coming back on the market and sold by Phillips now.

The Davidoff watch discussed here at Fratello with the missing lume in the chronograph hand.

    .
Flown in the HFE - Heat Flow Experiment onboard CSM "America" , became privately owned as Evans asked to have it as a memento after the mission. Just mentioning this detail as Evans wore a third watch onboard the CSM... this 3rd was privately flown.
(Apollo 17 CMP Evans had the NASA issued Speedy 145.012 (?), the Speedy 145.022-69 of the HFE and a third personal wristwatch)

    Hi everyone, Sacha Davidoff here.

First, the watch at Phillips is not the one we featured in our book & subsequently sold and also featured in MWO second edition. It was also featured on Fratello with permission of its current owner. Fratello had also written an article years before on Reinhard Furrer’s radial that ended up being pulled from the sale by US Government (most likely FBI), but totally different from these non-issued ones.
The missing lume in the seconds hand is indeed a huge coincidence, but movement serials (although a few numbers apart) are not the same. I can also confirm the one we sold is still safely residing in the owner’s safe and not going anywhere.

Second, after the 56pcs were delivered to NASA in 1978 (no second order), there were only an estimated 4 prototypes that stayed behind at Omega factory with PN (product number), but without NASA issued SN (serial number) and these are free to be sold as never belonged to NASA. We did the research and checked with Omega and Jim Ragan (ex purchasing manager for NASA astronaut equipment) to make sure and do things correctly. Also to note, this series all began with 44’818’xxx movement serials.

Lastly, regarding the loose dials. As far as we understood, 60 Star Cases were manufactured (56 delivered and 4 prototypes) and 100 Radial dials (no swiss made) were produced. If we do the math, that left 40 loose dials. Those found their way out of the factory in the 80’s as surplus and a clever but misinformed legend was born (via a certain Italian distributor) that these dials belonged in 145.022-69 watches delivered to USA.... of course these dials were made in 1978 so that makes no sense. However, it’s a fascinating bit of folklore and well appreciated by collectors today. Some are even re-assembling these into 145.022-78 for coherence sake.

Finally, good luck to the bidders, I will be there with paddle 69.

    Cheers,

    Sacha
