thanks. Not sure of the series. How do you find that out? Serial is 3xxxxxx.

The 1st series watches are very very rare, as far as i know they have a slightly different shade to the subdials and leaf shaped hour and minute hands. Additionally they had a snap on case back.

2nd series had a screwed on back, leaf shaped hands.

3rd series had a screw-on case back and elegant baton hands for hour and minutes (like yours😉)

Oh yes , and my absolute Grail watch that is. 😁

Have always enjoyed perpetuals. Setting the moon-phase has always provided entertainment.

The Patek 5040
is not as popular a model as some of the others but I liked the unique tonneau shaped case, first PP tonneau shaped perpetual, and the Breguet numerals... another first.

The IWC Portuguese Perpetual ref IW5021 in yellow gold was promptly discontinued and only sold in rose gold... don’t know why?

All very nice examples. I just put a new LUGS grained calfskin strap with cream stitching on my AP Perpetual to give it a more vintage appearance. A strap change can make a big difference. I found most straps are too padded for this style watch and was never happy with the look, but the Lugs straps are fairly flat which are more in line with what these sorts of watches originally had when they were first introduced in the 20's.

Beautiful and elegant AP... with Breguet numerals too

must be 3rd series then. Extract says it’s from 1994. And there’s an extra solid case back.

enjoying it for now.

thanks again.

Does this count?

does it count from 1 to 10? 😀

If it’s a perpetual calendar, it is very much welcome.

no month and day and year indicators?

Look closely! Month under 12, day around the outer dial. No year though!!

ooops i missed that. Does the outer ring move with the month change? Seems to still be working fine. Took pic last sept 3rd?

i read somewhere even AP has a perpetual without a year indicator. So i would suppose it might be a challenge to set. Or maybe just go through the last days of february to check if youre on leap year or not.

read up on it. Must be 3rd series indeed. Definitely not 1st and 2nd series. But since 1994 (could have been 4th series). However, not on a deployant. So 3rd series it is.

reading up, am amused even respected publications refer to the 9 o’clock subdial as a 12 hour totaliser. I guess the 12 fools them. But if they look closely, they can see a 24 at bottom. So it’s a 24 hour indicator or as some others described it - an am/pm indicator.

am planning to get a deployant clasp for this though as i prefer my watches on deployants.

thanks again.

The month is changed manually with top left crown pushed in. Pulled out it moves the outer ring which you line up with date pointer. Simple (sort of)!

These JLCs are so much watch for the money, exceptional movement and finishing yet second hand some of the cheaper perpetuals and steel can be had for the price of a two tone Rolex Datejust, not as nice as your gold example but damn that’s a deal.

A long lost ancestor-though technically uses a Vacheron movement:
Edit: the movement likely originated from Lecoultre rather than Vacheron.
