300,000-600,000 CHF or basically identical in USD.

Ok it is sexy, it is likely the only one, and in this case less is obviously more... But there has to be an identical Omega small seconds with Breguet numbers out there. Ok I know there is one, but applied on a black dial? It has to cost less then the buyers fees on this one.

Can't say for sure about a black dial, but check out Hamilton. They're cheap enough that you could find a beater and Have International Dial in Ohio refinish it since they have many of the original dies for Hamilton.

My point was more dang that is a high price for a basic steel watch. Yeah it's a one of s kind Patek, and I get the market for those. Just saying that their is not much really special about it outside of it being a one off Patek although stunning in proportion.

Seriously now..... that's upward of a half million dollar watch and I paid about $800 each for my Omegas.....

What am I missing here. Were they made by angles? Moses perhaps? I've handled a similar Patek, had the back off, looked around.....and its just a watch, beautiful yes, rare yes, but nothing overly special and certainly not that much better than the Omega.

    Go figure!

Patek is to horology as Picasso is to art. Does a painting by Picasso possess any more empirical value than a painting by an unknown artist? No. But when buying a Patek or a Picasso one is not simply paying for the object, one is paying for the aura.

Patek is considered, by many, as the greatest manufacturer of timepieces, ever. They have a rich and well-documented history. Therefore, any piece with the Patek Philippe name on the dial will garner a premium. This piece is particularly beautiful. It is in top condition. And, crucially, it is rare.

I find it more difficult to justify the prices that some are willing to pay for certain Rolex watches. These lack the finishing and quality that often elevates a Patek above the rest. But subjectivity is likely the essence of value.

Rolex........ Harley Davidson comes to mind....... Don't get me started!

Too much "paying for the name" going on in this world.

No such site exists to my knowledge.

Movado cares little for their history. They are focused solely on new watch sales.

Which ref. # and what caliber is in it? Maybe I can ballpark it a bit for you with the Von Osterhausen book.

Look at this Movado aestheticaly beautiful ! Looks like Gotham City Batman ! Gorgeous to me, and I have over 50 vintage watches, Patek, Jaeger Lecoltre, UG, Gubelin, etc... I have never seen another, so kind of rare ? On the market, not very valuable, but an awesome piece ! I enjoy this watch as much as some of my high end watches ! Go figure !

It's the rarity only of it being a steel Patek watch. The same watch in platinum or gold would have only sold for a fraction of that auction total. Which makes no sense to me, but at the high end little does make sense. I'm sure Hodinkee would have an article on it praising how it is the most amazing Patek they've ever seen, blah blah blah.
