So I've been looking at the smaller Nautilus, and noticed that prices for it hover anything from 27-30k USD.

Has that always been the usual price or has the prices dropped abit for the 3800?

Also, are there any major differences between dials? Seems like there's one quite alot more expensive with a Mk1 dial or something like that.

    Appreciate all replies and discussion.

Sorry to beat that same old drum, but from my own sad experiences owning a 3800 Nautilus: Don't Do It!

Quite possibly the worst movement Patek ever created. It may have been the only Patek movement without the Geneva Seal.
It was a split stem system that regularly required several months at Sterns in New York for repair.

Ya it’s not from their best time. I will say that it’s a very nice watch for around 10-12k but anything more will disappoint you. If you are a fan of two tone, it’s worth looking at if you can find cheap.

Damn pricing are anywhere from 22 to 28k usd.

What exactly is wrong or bad with the 3800? Bad movement? I tried to Google but nothing turns up

My opinion is that there were growing pains with the 3800, specifically being the first nautilus with center seconds with the 335 SC caliber. The 3700 was based on the JLC 920.
So Patek builds their own automatic 335 SC and I think the general consensus was that it wasn’t as refined as it could have been.
I’m sure smarter people than I can elaborate!

I’ve considered the Nautilus before. I tried one on and found the case to be quite unpleasant to look at and to wear. If you do this please try it in the wrist first.

Have you considered a Patek Neptune 5080?
It is also mid-sized and very comfortable on the wrist, at least the one I owned.
It has a more reliable cal.315 SCT movement and is more reasonable than a Nautilus 3800.

these watches used to be 15-17k for a decent one. the latest nautilus craze has shot there prices for double that now. lots of other watches to consider at 30k. a buddy did just pick one up and they are stunning on the wrist. however, he went to go set the time and the stem pulled out the second day of ownership. ::facepalm2::

Jesus. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm gonna avoid the 3800 then.

this was never that popular, was hard seller and at 4 figures only. Pricing soar on this due to the rise in all nautilus models.

What happened to your buddy is what happens because of this stupid "split-stem" system in the 3800.
Hopefully his 3800 has a Patek warranty otherwise it will cost him as much as a 5711 to keep it on his wrist.
