For full disclosure, I posted my Speedy to sell on On the Dash last week and a couple of folks told me a couple parts are incorrect. After a few days, I pulled the posting and decided to keep it. It is not for sale now, but I would like to get the correct parts on it.
I am looking for help on sourcing a correct crown and lower pusher. My existing crown is about 6.5mmX3mm and has the old omega insignia. Any idea on correct crown dimensions or part number? Also, need a part number for the pusher. I did not have much luck on Ofrei.
One last point that I would appreciate some feedback on is the serial number. I was told that 18464xx was correct for 2998's, but not a -5. I checked Speedmaster 101 and it looks like this S/N would be okay for a -6. The gentleman who brought this to my attention, mentioned Moonwatch Only as his source. Are Omega serial numbers that precise in dating the watches? Can I be 99% sure my watch has a movement that did not come with it from the factory?
Thanks in advance for the help and guidance.

According to MWO 18,419xxx to 18,645xxx would also be good for a 2998-5.

You have an inside shot of the caseback?

    Here is what you need

    Pusher

Your movement number is within the correct range, per MWO, for a 2998-5

    Good luck

Crowns are tough. Theres a guy on ebay who sells railmaster crowns that look like speedy crowns but don't fit. A member here has been known to sell the same, but already adjusted. Real ones are very hard to find, and expensive.

The pusher you want is, 086ST0023. Shouldn't be hard to find.

And on ebay now and again. General*Vintage is a member here and might be able to help.

As I have one in this range, I believe 18946xxx is a 2998-6 movement number. MWO indicates that this movement could have originated in a 2998-6, 61 or 62. Who knows how your's ended up with a 2998-5 caseback?? Swapped during a service. A leftover 5 caseback during 6 production. Omega was known for using up their available parts. These 2998 references (8 in total) were switched every few months and Omega did not excercise the greatest control over parts. You have a great watch and I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you very much and I have a hard time believing that Omega was all that better in keeping records than Rolex, Heuer or Breitling.
Maybe the were? Is it worth it, and would a Certificate from the Archives tell me definitively ? Being from USA, don't know how I would get one....
    Again, thank you,

You can try, look online or visit an Omega Boutique, but Omega's records (aka microfilms) are often not available for the 2998s.

Give it a shot, but I've never been able to get one for a watch below about 20,55xx,xxx.

Also, the extracts don't specify the subreference. So all it would say is that it's a 2998 (not specifically a 2998-5), along with year of manufacture, and where it was delivered to.

Another point of reference, speedmaster101 says:

    Serial Range: 1841 9xxx – 1894 5xxx

As Gemini4 says, it's a nice watch. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Agree with all they've said above. In general, if a serial is close to the generally accepted range, I don't worry about nefarious origins / franken parts.
