From the early forties ? http://www.scotsman.com/regions/gla...-found-in-lanarkshire-sells-for-55k-1-4238862
Yes it is a type D with a brass dial. It will have a Rolex marked movement despite having been made by Cortebert. Quite a strong price. If you are curious, see Perezcope.com.
i thought vintage panerai not selling as well last 1-2 year....lunaroyster has a 95K vintage rad for almost a year
I am assuming the £55,000 is the hammer price so we will then have I assume a buyers premium on top ?
Yeah, they're definitely a little lower on the radar now than 2 or 3 years ago. Still interesting watches
At the risk of being persona non grata with Kirill, his watch is made up from different watches. No value there. Unfortunately it is not uncommon. The Panerai community does not like to acknowledge this, but it is real. The last Christies auction was an example.
Is there an explanation? That's interesting, fist'time I hear a desirable watch falling out of fashion in this overheated market.
Because they where always a minority market brand. They just had a huge spike for a few years partly because of stallone etc. But before then and In the future they will remain a respected part of history with a very legitimate claim in military and specialised watches. So the price will stabilize or Re- set to market without hype. As for a desirable watch brands falling there are many brands that have fallen that where desirable at one time or another. In watches like in everything there are levels and levels of collectively. At the very top of the $ market are the hype followers, they loose interest as fast as hoodinky publishes a new article.... But there are others that remain more interested on watches outside of market perception....when spikes take place they just wait....and there are others that specialize... And they don't care. I am probably a couple, but just a couple of levels bellow hype, but I know what's going on. This watch here....it's a great historical piece that belongs in a collection. It may be overpriced, but there are less notable pieces that are even more overpriced....and yes, perhaps equal pieces that are better priced.
No , hammer price was £44,000 , then buyers premium on top brought it to £54,560. Seller probably takes home £38,000 after seller's fees. Nice money for Great Western Auction.
I guess this is the same watch like lunaroyster has listed on his website USD 95'000 since about a year, isn't it? (I have really no clue of Panerai market)
Very similar , this was the Type D version , not a "sandwich dial" as lume painted onto dial. May take even longer to sell that one !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Collectors tend to value the sandwich dials higher than the brass dials---brass dials as said have the radioactive lume painted directly on a brass dial. Type D can have either. The auction watch was new to the market and had some rust and hand issues as you can see. So I think it was a good sale. It's a pretty thin market out there but new watches have been coming on the market. Auction sales tell me there is a demand but maybe the Panerai prices were already high so it doesn't look like they're increasing like others. I don't know. I think it is higher prices in general bringing out these watches for sale as with so many other models.
