yeah the title is misleading but.

Like probably most of you I’ve dreamt about the Rolex Pan am “albino” and I just came across the Steinhart version premium that is 42 mm.

I got the 39mm steinhart gmt and it’s pretty good quality but this one cost 870 EUR.

Has anyone here any experience from this specific watch and/or what are your thoughts ?

No interest in the albino version. I prefer the 40mm Rolex version, the original.

I have the Key West homage from MKII. It also came out with a white dial as per the Steinhart. I really love mine!

Yeah guess I will stay away from it as it’s 42mm, find it a bit to much for this kind of watch.

Also not sure if steinhart is worth almost 900 eur - any input on that ?

The original proportions of the GMT are spot on- any bigger and the balance would appear off to me. That said, I recently tried on the Autavia 02 and thought at 42 it would be rediuclous compared to the original at 37, they nailed the proportions and it actually wears much smaller- almost like a 39-40 just from the balance of the the dial/bezel/bracelet.

Agree with the Autavia, was really surprised how well it wears as I am usually max 40-41 mm as I often wear smaller vintage watches.

But I found a second hand Steinhart 42mm and all paid for so it will come to me in few days, worst case I just try to flip it :D

My problem with “homage” watches is that whomever makes them ( be it mega Corp or micro-brand) try to modernize slightly and put their own twist on it (be it size or color or case changes or whatever). Some people invite the changes as the originals wore too small or haven’t aged well due to material issues. But I feel the reason people generally want an homage is becuase they can’t afford or find the real thing...so make the homage as true to the real thing as possible and there ya go.
My issue (among many) is that the psychology of not having the real thing alway bothers me.
I have an “homage” SM300 built by a friend. From a few feet away it looks like the real thing, it’s incredibly well build with an eta movement, glass bezel, etc....but I know it’s not the real thing thus I don’t wear it much.
I have the Timefactors Smiths PRS-29. It’s a spectacular watch and beautifully made- but it’s not the original, and I know it...so I don’t wear it much. (I missed out on darlingboy’s original that he was offering by a day- that killed me).
I hope the Steinhart works for you, they are good looking. But if you want a white dialed GMT style watch (maybe not pepsi) there are other companies like Bulova or Glycine that made them. If you want a real Pepsi, the modern Tudor’s are not outrageously priced.

I recently bought and flipped a Steinhart watch: it was everything I had expected it to be - well made, solidly constructed, an accurate timepiece. It fell by simply failing the "how much do I really want to wear it?" test.
    Only you can say.....

Damn I would love the 39mm - I am worrying that the 42mm is gonna be way to big.

I tried the Tudor Gmt on yesterday and that is I think 41mm and that was I think maximum size for me.

They are not still selling the 39mm albino are they ?

I’ve not tried the 42mm, so can’t comment.

The 39mm is lovely. It came on a Jubilee bracelet with solid end links, which I’ve never worn. I really like the vintage look with the aged lume, so a leather band just seems the right way to go.

I’m looking out for the 42mm Polar GMT that steinhart did a couple of years ago, again another LE watch long sold out, to go with it.

Black faced 39’s are available easily enough if you really want to try one for size

I’ve had the 39mm for some time and it’s really nice, I’ve used it as my daily beater for a long time and never failed me. I have the 42mm coming in hopefully today as I bought one this weekend second hand :)
