Hi everyone I recently had for a brief period a limited edition PO on rubber and it caused serious pain, irritation and swelling of my wrist bone....I tried the strap at a perfect fit...loose...and tighter with no help...even switched wrists and did the same to the other side

I had this once before with the rolex deep sea anyone else ever experience this? I've had many watches old and new so it's not like I don't know how to wear a watch...I have a 68 speedmaster and never have had an issue...even panerai never gave me a problem

Could it be allergies? Try it on a NATO strap and see how you go, they're cheap and easy to find.

Some watches can cause carpal tunnel in some people, even if lose, but I've never heard of that with the external swelling. Did you take it off at night?

A nickel allergy would cause a skin rash, but he didn't get that with other watches. It sounds like large tall watches are moving around from being too top heavy and banging his wrist bone.

Is this your first watch on a rubber strap? It could be a reaction to the silicone content in the rubber...even if you have had a rubber strap before the Omega strap could have a higher silicone content setting off this reaction.

As far as I know there is nothing wrong with the watches, have you ever considered new wrists? :p

Allergies to latex or some of the rubber products are common. Can't be sure without examining the area affected, but I can imagine you could get a reaction to the components of the strap as well. I have seen nickle allergies from casebacks or cheap buckles, which are "a dime a dozen" common (inflation...).
I would think this is a reaction to the rubber strap of the PO, which may mean a change in strap. Leather or other kind of hide should not cause any problems, unless the buckle is the issue.
Treatment is easy, avoid the offending watch/strap for a week or so to allow the swelling to disappear.

See Rolex's have high nickel content and cause allergies often, due to the composition of the 904L steel they use, and people also have latex allergies, it just happens that the two watches you mentioned in your OP are two watches that are known to have potential allergies associated with them. I'm no doctor by the way, just a pleb who reads a lot, several of our guys are though, which is handy.

    Well yes and no...

Just want to add that regardless of the nickel content of the steel used, the Nickel Release Rate is limited by EU standards for watches and jewelry. The nickel content of the steel is only but one factor related to the nickel release rate - things like how the surface in contact with the skin is finished can also have a very big impact on the release rate. Regardless of the high nickel content in 904L, the release rate is still within the standards - this does not mean someone won't still have a reaction, but I have no doubt the major watch manufacturer's make sure their goods comply.

If you want to read more about it this link is a good start:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_Directive

Also with regards to the strap, the material may be an issue, but also remember that these surfaces can carry contaminants, so they should be cleaned periodically. It could be the strap or something on the strap that is causing the issue if you get inflammation at that spot.

Believe me if you saw the crap in some of the bracelets I get in with watches for service, you would be amazed at how dirty people let them get...

    Cheers, Al

The Liquid Metal Planet Ocean is made from titanium, which is considered to be about the most hypoallergenic and safe metal there is, that should be perfect for you assuming you're skin is sensitive and reacting to the watch.

Does your entire wrist hurt or is isolated to one specific bone? A lot of people have problems with the triquetrum (the round bone which protrudes from the top outside part of your wrists) when wearing large sport watches. the lugs literally beat your bones.

someone else mentioned possible latex allergy but these new straps are pretty hypoallergenic. But, it still could be an issue for you if you're hypersensitive. Even your diet can affect sensitivity.

I find that Ulysee Nardin makes the most comfy rubber straps by far. If you can deal with the vanilla sent, you're golden. the titanium hinges are a clever trick.

This is far and away the most comfy sports watch i wear:

If that UN wasn't modular, I would have bought one a long time ago! Still my favourite UN is the Sonata...
