It honestly looks absolutely fine and in amazing conditions to me!
I don't think the case was polished or the dial cleaned, it is probably the lighting of the picture, it looks in very very good conditions to me.
The only small weird thing is that the day disk seems to be in Italian, whereas the month disk seems to be in English.
That's all. All the rest seems to be in good order and in great conditions to me. And let's face it: it just doesn't get better than this in 1940s Tri Compaxes, this is one of the best two/three example I have ever seen, period.
One last interesting thing: on the lug at 11 o'clock there is something that might be an import mark. By memory I believe that Portugal used import marks and the day disk could indeed actually be Portuguese and not Italian, given that the words Sabatop/Sabado (Saturday) and Domenica/Domingo (Sunday) starts with the same 3 letters.
