I have always worn my watch overnight - though they have tended until just about now to be quartz ones, not mechanical ones, and less expensive than I'm now moving into. On this forum, a number of people talk about 'picking up their watch in the morning' or 'viewing it on the nightstand' so I assume a number of people take it off. Is it personal preference, or is there a good reason for taking it off, or what?

I can't imagine how many posts it will take for the double entendres to arrive, but I'm genuinely curious.

I have always taken my watch off at night. Wearing an automatic watch during the day should provide plenty of power to last throughout the night. Then just pick it up in the morning, put it on, and you're good to go. If mechanical, give it a full wind in the morning before putting it on and it will last all day and through the night. I would think most people do this, but I could be wrong.

I don't know if there's a real good reason for it because I doubt sleeping with a watch on will harm anything. If other people are like me they might have a "ritual" of taking a watch off at night, staring at it for a few seconds, maybe winding it a couple of times just because. Others may just throw it on the nightstand. It's all personal preference.

I have always had watches with lume and have always worn them through the night. My first move when I wake up is to look at my watch

Among the Hoboken tribes of New Jersey it is considered bad luck to wear a watch to bed.

he who sleeps with the fishes wears time eternal..

Always wear a watch at night, stems from years back working away from home and the safest place for a watch was on the wrist. Cash under the pillow. Gives an indication of some of the salubrious overnight locations I have had the dubious pleasure of frequenting ;)

Just be careful what you wear to bed, if you toss and turn in your sleep while wearing a Ploprof you can easily give your Mrs a concussion.

Jeepers, and here I thought the Courtyard was slumming, since they have no room service :)

I used to wear overnight until I cracked a crystal thrashing about in bed, a restless sleeper, not getting randy . . .

I used to wear my Quartz watches to bed, but not so my Speedy Pro! Why? Well, I'm not so bothered about it hitting anything, but I've noticed that if I leave it resting dial up, it slows down ever so slightly, counter-acting all the movement/shocks etc it receives during the day. It consistently runs at +2s per day...

thanks for the responses - I guess I'll be developing new rituals myself from now on, but I suspect I'll keep it on overnight and wind it in the morning.....

I usually take my watches off when I get home from wherever I happen to be. A couple of reasons for this. First, I see no reason to risk damage while doing work around the house, even on the computer. Second, some of my vintage watches are loaded with radium. While I don't think there is any particular danger in this, in the immortal words of Remo from Casino, "Why take a chance?".

I never sleep with them on either.

i feel uncomfortable sleeping with a watch so i take them off, normally they go back to their "bed" in the display box...or just stay on my night desk. there have been a couple of occasions when I was so tired i didn't notice, but i get a little fidgety normally.

In my past life (for 28 years) I wore a watch 24/7, it was a habit and standard practice for many of us.

Now, in civilian life, my watch usually comes off and sits on the bedside chest.

I wear a watch to bed - one with good lume. A quick charge under a lamp and I can read it easily through the whole night:

Medical condition often causes me to wake up frequently during the night, so I like to know what time it is. For me the worst thing is going back to sleep and then the alarm going off 15 minutes later - that makes me feel like I've had a stroke when I do get up. I'll feel much better if I just stay awake for those 15 minutes...

    Cheers, Al

My apologies to any cute 20 something females that may now have been put off joining the forum because of my inappropriate remark…..;)

Mind you if you are a 20 year old ‘cutey’ reading whether some guy should wear his watch in bed or not, I suggest you turn off your iPhone or iPad and get out clubbing instead:D
