Evening all, Hopefully ok to post here, if not please tell me and I’ll move/remove as required. Very quickly, I’ve an opportunity to purchase this watch at a very reasonable price. Met the seller, great guy, and all documents look good. But, I noticed the “Stainless Steel” lettering has been removed from its usual position on the lug (it can be made out very faintly so I assume it’s been polished off). The serial number on the other lug seems fine. Anyway, I’d be grateful for an opinion as to whether the rest of the case has also been polished, and whether it’s to an extent that would cause concern. I see a number of comments regarding polishing, and why it’s bad etc. But I think I could live with it if it was deemed very minor, as otherwise the watch is lovely. I’m struggling to find a suitable reference image from which to compare, hence this post. Any comments welcome, and have a lovely evening.
It has definitely been polished on the sides and top of lugs as well. The angles are not nearly as sharp as they should be, nor is the brush on the flanks of the case correct.
Thanks. I didn’t think the flanks had been touched. I had thought this was fairly light polishing though? Is it something that could be corrected I.e. re edged(?) or similar?
I'm sure it could be corrected but then you're removing additional steel from the case and you have to find the right person to refinish the case properly. As stated above, the polish job on this watch was poorly done. I picked one of these up recently for about $3,400 USD gently used and still under the Omega 5 year warranty. They come up for sale often as it's still a current model in the Omega catalogue. I would recommend searching the sales forum here and finding a deal on an unpolished (like new) watch from a reputable seller. I think you'd be a lot happier in the long run even if it costs slightly more.
