I had a smidgeon of respect for Invicta when they resurrected Glycine and did the original Airman and combat series. But then they dropped those and are now Invicta-izing Glycine. It’s kind of like when you think someone finally got it and you get that glimmer of hope, then they go and fυck it all up again.

Which one makes you richer, flying with the Eagles or gobbling with the Turkey's obviously Invicta found the latter to be key to making their money. Having tried the Glycine thing I guess the numbers didn't add up for them. Shame really as Invicta has made some nice reliable automatic dive watches in the past and still do.

You still can’t get a Rolex at MSRP

Just had a friend looking to treat herself, went to a Rolex AD. No stock even for women’s watches, no surprises there unfortunately. BUT the kicker? They would only allow her to try on maximum two display watches. Insane!

Yeah- fυck them. I don’t care about shortages or them not shorting or whatever their excuses are. Their business practices at the retail level are just disgusting.

Tried on a new Sub (exhibition model) at a Rolex AD a few weeks ago -- after quite some time since no one wanted to interact with me -- and got chewed out by the SA when I started to turn the bezel. Apparently that's not allowed because "they'll wear out."

Does anyone know this logo on my Omega? Kind of looks like a red flying griffin or some bird....

Welcome back. Thanks to new-fangled economics, certain watch companies can now increase the value of a product by millions of dollars if they swap in a light blue dial. But most people still wear Apple watches.

Someone inherited their uncle’s watch, but can’t figure out how to take a clear photo of it.

I think somebody suggests you need a bra. Care to elaborate?

Everyone has suddenly become an expert in horology giving unsolicited irrelevant advice to others….
…When any OP asks for suggestions for a watch within his budget of $1000, all these experts suggest watch they like & often cost 2-3X that OP’s budget.

people have also gotten meaner - they think it’s ok to do so hiding behind anonymity…

Come on, now... Rolex deserves a little more credit than that -- don't forget the pathbreaking move they made last year by offering the Explorer in two-tone, er, um, Rolesor! That broke the internet for awhile.
Don't forget: PALM FRONDS.

I'm visiting an Rolex AD maybe once a year to try something . Normally wear my 1962 pointed crown guard Sub with black high gloss and gilt printed Dial and gilt hands on an original expander bracelet. That instantly shuts up all Employees and you can turn every bezel.... Milsubs on worn NATO bands do the same.

I'd like to visit your AD! Most of the SAs at the shop near me actually know very little about watches, especially anything vintage. I don't think they even noticed the Explorer on my wrist, or, more likely, maybe they just didn't care.

To be fair, if you were going into work every morning and knew you had nothing to sell, nothing to polish, nothing to do, nothing to lose how long would it take for you to invent the ‘piss off the non-customer’ game?😉

Imagine being the shop manager!!!

They have plenty to do - it takes time to sell the watches out the back door to grey dealers, and call up all the big fish who are willing to pay up in buying other crap to get the watch of their choice. The AD's are loving every minute of this "shortage"...and the walk in customer is nothing but an interruption to their new way of doing business.

60 posts so far about the state of the Omega forum. Looks like 17 posts directly or indirectly about Rolex. Not sure what to make of that?

In fairness, Invicta had a decent representation.

Edit: My mistake! It's not about the OF but about watch collecting in general. Oops.

Still...

The reason you see so many posts about Rolex is because their business model has been so unorthodox—and successful—over the past decade. No other mid-range watch brand has build that kind of clout and exclusiveness like Rolex has.

Twenty years ago, a Submariner had direct substitutes from the likes of Omega, Cartier, Breitling, etc… those days are long gone. A date Sub at market value is 5X the price of a Seamaster Diver 300M at market value, for example.

I think most Omega fans love Rolex too (and may own both). Rolex makes amazing watches, but the gatekeeping really is annoying. My two cents.

Gatekeeping is a charitable way of describing Rolex’s business model. I agree that JWRosenthal’s characterization of it as disgusting is more appropriate. That being said, I’ll admit that Rolex has done a masterful job of convincing consumers that a mass produced mid-tier luxury watch is a must have item that’s worth waiting and/or overpaying for.
