Had this curiosity land in my shop this week. A jeweller I do some work for didn’t want this watch, and was ready to turf it when he thought of me. Hence, a new acquisition. The dial name is REVUE. I have long been under the impression that Revue was Wittnauer, or vice versa. My Bestfit fingerprint catalog identifies this as a Wittnauer. But the Revue name is associated with the firm Gedeon-Thommen, and the trade mark on the movement is a stylized G over a T. So is it a Revue, a Wittnauer, or a Gédéon Thommen? This watch doesn’t really fit in with what I collect, but how can you turn down a free watch? After replacing a broken mainspring, cleaning it, and tidying the case a bit, this is the result. Now, what to do with it?
Find a nice stylish, period ‘Albert’ silver chain, and wear it on your waistcoat You will look the ‘cats whiskers’ !
Nice watch. The dial and hands are particularly attractive. What size is it? If I had a teenager who was interested in watches, I might give him/her this as a pocket watch starter.
Nice watch, and great condition. According to mikrolisk.de, the "Revue Thommen" name goes back to 1853, so I think it's fair to say that it's both a Revue and a Gideon-Thommen. The movement is a Revue 30 obviously. Interesting to see such a modern version, with incabloc prominently advertised on the dial. http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&2&2uswk&Revue_30
The movement is 41.5 mm diameter which is about 14-size, and the case is a shade over what you would expect a 16-size case might be. The case is 54mm diameter, nickel silver. Good runner.
