https://limited.hodinkee.com/oris/ Regardless of how people feel about Oris or Hodinkee, I feel this collab is visually appealing, though nothing too much different than their standard 65 line...simple, no-date, slight fade and grey bezel looks nice. LE of 250 sold out rather instantly but the price point wasn't terribly out of line. I understand the 100m depth rating is relatively week but is still adequate for the majority of needs. No experience with Sellita hand wound movements (210)--any thoughts?
Visually, I love it. Can’t find anything about the crown though - but assuming it’s screw-down like the standard issue, a hand wound movement doesn’t make much sense to me.
I like it a lot aesthetically. The bezel is a sort of faux ghost bezel look. The hand wound movement doesn't necessarily do anything for me.
I have owned the standard issue 65 in 40mm on a bracelet - I can say the bracelet is really awesome. Strikes the perfect balance between modern build quality and light vintage feel.
I think it's cool - the Oris has never really done anything for me and I don't love the 40mm size for a 3-hander, but I absolutely applaud the effort to slim the watch down. That it's a manual-wind is just icing on the cake after that - I truly hope to see more watch models take note of thickness.
great looking bezel. if it wasn't hodinkee, i'd be surprised that they all sold out on day 1. sadly half of them will be on eBay in mid july.
I like everything but the price. No it is not out of line from the 65 lines' MSRP, but Oris, including the 65 range, is frequently found BNIB for 40% off MSRP, even at ADs.
It was sold out in 30 minutes or so. I think, it start getting to the point where every watch needs to look vintage and have Hodinkee LE stamp on. It looks alright, but $2400, I think is a bit too much.
Although it’s very attractive, that seems a whole lot of money for a ‘diver’. I much prefer the new Baltic Aquascaphe 200M... and at 25% the price of the ‘Hoodwinkie’ watch!
I think for someone who wants to rock a very cool looking and trendy watch and who doesn't want to put much thought into it this is a great option. Hodinkee did a great job here. The audience for this is not vintage watch enthusiasts.
Yeah...ever since @Larry S posted about the new Baltic I’ve been contemplating it! Ultimately 2400 is a lot for the piece but like @snarkq said it’s perfect for the target audience. I don’t think it’s tying to be something it’s not tho like most hodinkee pieces on the high end for what you’re getting; and there’s something to be said for vintage appeal in a new /modern watch without concern for waterproofness, service history, old movement, etc...
not feeling that ghostly bezel, hand-wind is silly in this case and pricing is typical hoodwinky gouging...
I have been putting the Aquascaphe through its paces .. very impressed. Solid watch for a great price.
A friend tried on the Baltic and he thought it was a vintage piece initially. It's very well done. And for the money, it punches way above its weight
They still have some of the black cream on tropical strap avail--if I didn't already have the Oris 65 bronze bezel I'd snag one. Looks sharp and great price.
