Bonjour

J'ai trouvé cette montre dans une boîte à bijoux de ma mère savez-vous quelle est son histoire. Cela peut-il intéresser un collectionneur de montre?

Merci d'avance Patrick

I have found this vintage Omega watch do you know anything about it? Is it a collectors item ? valuable ?

Thanks in avance for any information, Patrick

It was once owned by a tall dark stranger.

This might help.

I can safely say that it is worth X and it has a collectors value of Y. You also have a probability of somewhere between 0 and 1 of finding another one exactly the same. Hope this helps? 😁

women's watches typically aren't worth as much, though can still have fabulous movements.

what's the backstory on this watch?

Not hugely collectible or valuable I’m afraid. Value around €40 or gold scrap price, whichever is greater.

In the 1960s, Omega produced a series of karat gold watches (14 or 18 karat gold) for women. The series was called “Sapphette”, and they were a premium watch for the era. Mostly manual winders, 17-jewel shock protected movements, but one distinguishing feature of the Sapphette was the beautifully faceted synthetic sapphire crystal which the subject watch has. The facets were placed on the crystal in the same manner that facets were placed on gemstones. Collectibility? Women collect all sorts of things, but only rarely do we run into women that collect watches. But show that beautiful Sapphette to the right woman, and it would be collected, immediately! Whatever you do, DO NOT sell it for the scrap gold content! The scrap gold guy would take it home and give it to his wife! My wife has two Sapphettes, and she loves them! There must be a lady in your life that would appreciate exactly what this watch is. Now that you know something about it, tell her! Chances are she’ll love it!
