...Yet the entire world wants to be in America.
Yeah it's a funny claim, and I guess if you live there you might hear it enough to believe it's true. My wife and I have both had job opportunities in the US, and every time we have refused (the impromptu job offer from the Honolulu Omega boutique was tempting I will say).

I've personally been to at least 25 US states, plus DC. Many wonderful places and people. Zero desire to live there...
My wife works for a large franchise/food related company in Aus. It's very difficult to get people to move to US management roles from Aus without huge incentives and perks. Rent, food, and all expenses (including moving) covered, generous extra spending allowance every month. People still don't want to go. It's been like this for years. Regardless of political orientation, most Australians quietly regard the US as a sort of empire in decline. We love the people and places, but would never live there. Australian standard of living, lifestyle, safety, food, is objectively way better.

It seems... perhaps impossible to ignore that people in the states see the same thing or have the same fear, or there would be no need to make America great again.

Speaking of small businesses.... One of the smallest out there was supposedly floating the idea of adding a line stating what the tariffs cost on certain products. But you- well we all know, really, how readily small businesses fold because of pressure.

Did you see the press briefing where they called this act of pricing transparency a 'hostile political action'?

As soon as whatever her name is said "I will field this one" I was like here we go.

what a reprehensible and hateful person. I genuinely do not- CAN not, understand how anyone can listen to her talk and not.... just understand how 1984 we are right now.

Ok. This thread is getting tedious.

It's time to start a thread titled "The United States of America Appreciation Thread."

Do it. I'll post. There is a ton to appreciate about this country. And much of it is honestly being discussed in this thread. How highly we value freedom of speech, and how highly we value actual facts. How beautiful our National Parks are. Those things are great parts of American exceptionalism. It is in fact how highly I value these things that drives the posting in this thread and I suspect it is similar for others.

Aside from those things, we excel at entertainment. Hollywood still makes exceptional movies. And I saw a comment earlier about American Beer not being that great, but the reality is we have many exceptional breweries in places like california, oregon, washington, and many others. Kentucky bourbon is respected around the world to an extreme degree for a reason. Not to mention, although we don't grow much of our own coffee our roasters are second to none.

There definitely is, I always tell people US sports are objectively better to hang out with your mates while watching and enjoying a beer.

The frequent stoppages of play, quarters rather than just halves and longer duration give you the opportunity to drink your beer and take a leak without missing the action and you can chat to the bloke next to you between plays.

Many of the popular sports here don’t let the game have time to breathe, or give spectators the time to get rid of the beer they just finished.

The social aspect of watching football and baseball is the only redeeming feature of these sports.

They are excruciatingly boring if you're not with a group of people. It's all commercials and incessant blathering from the commentators; very little action.

Back to the topic, hopefully there will not be a tariff on hockey...

I can't be sure what Amazon's hypothetical motivation would have been to post the cost of tariffs baked into each item. It might have been political or it might have been to deflect the anger of their customers when seeing big price increases.

Either way, I would have been interested to see those numbers.

I'm not a fan of Karoline Leavitt, she lies blatantly with no shame and seems to revel in being an attack dog. Spinning the narrative has become part of the press secretary role so I guess she's just doing her job. But ultimately, I think every individual has to follow their own conscience, and if you choose a job where you are required to speak falsely in public every single day, that probably says something about you.

Make Australia Great Again . Which makes no sense. Australia was, is and always will be Great . And as a life long staunch Ally of the USA , we only got 10% Tariffs and always had a negative Trade Balance with the USA .... Good times ! China takes our vast Minerals anyway. And the upcoming Federal Election in 4 days , will annihilate the Liberal Opposition . Like Canada did. Our Opposition Leader did read the Room wrong. Started as a Mini Trump ... Funny to watch.
Saw a guy wearing this shirt recently 😆😆😆

Leavitt and Pam Bondi put the “sync” in sycophant. More loyalty to their leader than their country.

Sad.

Ya that would be great. Give all these nice guys in OF a chance to say how nice America is except for the 50% that are Nazis.

I think a Nazi appreciation thread would probably be in rather bad taste given we had a war over it and all

The anger is real when people finally figure out they US consumers are paying the tariffs…not Amazon but I suspect they would be getting the same sort of reaction…

She operates more like a Twitter troll than a press secretary…

Karoline Leavitt is a breath of fresh air when compared with Karine Jean-Pierre.

Y'all surely agree.

These reports may be the canary in the coal mine, since they are consumers ordering directly from China. The big retailers may already have a lot of inventory in stock, so the price increases are delayed.

America, the country and people, have many positives and negatives like all countries. The ‘50% Nazis’ is, I think, overstating the number but unfortunately the few seem to have an inordinate amount of influence at this time.
As a Brit I have felt what is known as the special relationship all my life but that feeling is eroded daily by the current politics.

That's not what he's saying. He's saying that if anyone says something positive about the current state of the USA, then they are accused of being a Nazi. If we had a thread to say something positive about the USA, that would be for the other half of the people who are currently complaining.

I don't happen to agree with him but he isn't saying he supports Nazis. He's said he's annoyed that people who support Trump are constantly accused of being a Nazi.

Of course, @The Father can speak for himself and correct me, but I imagine he's feeling a bit beat up on.

As far as Trump goes, I personally do recognize some fascist tendencies. But to be fair, that's a different discussion, and not something that should be dumped on @The Father.
