Yes finding a donor dial for this watch would be next to impossible. I'd wager that the watch is bit older, maybe by just a couple years of your estimate. As for the dial refinish, personally I wouldn't. Get it serviced and put it on a strap that correctly fits 👍

Yes, I can't even find pictures or a model number for it online, serial number on the case is in 10 million range, it belonged to my grandfather.
what leads you to think it's older than that?

i plan on wearing it often and would like it to be looking great, I understand that it's better to keep the dial original. but if i never plan to sell it, what is the benefit of not refinishing the dial ?

thanks for your reply.

You might consider a factory restoration in Bienne; they will refinish the dial as best they can based on the information they have on file. It is quite expensive, though.

yes, i read about this option online, but I do not intend on spending over 2k on restoring the watch at the factory, while I'd like do that, im not sure how good the return on investment is. as I mentioned i don't plan on ever selling it, which is why im considering restoring the watch by an experienced local watchmaker, for a fraction of the price.

I know, right? Huge money. I don't know how you old you are, but think of it this way... how many years of happiness will I get from this? What is the true cost when I amortize it?

I have spent thousands to restore my grandfather's Buescher 400 trumpet from 1949. When I was done, it looked and played like brand new. On the open market? Worth maybe $600. It is now with my cousin's granddaughter, still in the family, and I hope she learns to play it well.

You only have one chance to "do it right". Clearly the choice is yours and I only want to unleash you should you choose factory restoration.

thanks for taking the time to reply & share your experience. i must say that you are persuading me to change my mind, maybe I will have it serviced and change the crystal, wear it for now. and restore the whole thing later in the future in Bienne. this could be good middle ground.

can i have them just do the Dial at Bienne ? if so, do they give some sort of certificate or the whole watch has to go through the process? i cant believe it's working after 77 years ! my watchmaker says the movement is, in excellent condition and the watch is well taken care of.

If Omega tests the dial ref to radiation, it will get expensive. My advice is to check that before...
I would get the movement serviced and the dial too: it s a nice and honest remembrance of that time

I’m guessing the dial colors would be something like this one:

This one should date from the thirties, so could about right for yours, although the layout is different.
