I saw this Orient "Weekly" diver and liked the look of it. Thought I might go as high as $550USD or so.

A couple of minutes before the hammer it had gotten to $850 or so and I dropped out went back to work. Was surprised at the eventual hammer of $1245.

Did I miss something rare?

 

Probably went high as it looks to be early Orient Star. So better finish, movement and regulation than standard parent Orient. Still seems pricey to me, perhaps the date wheel is unusual complication

 

Not too familiar with Orients, but it looks pretty attractive with the patina and haven't seen too many of these around. Maybe it's the relative rarity and condition that drove the price?
