Folks, I'm looking to buy my first omega seamaster, and I noticed this Omega deville black dial on ebay. It's closing soon, and I wondered if it looked legit and what price was reasonable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271327682867?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network I'm looking for a watch to wear everyday, so a refinished dial is not a deal-breaker. I just don't want to get ripped off. Thanks for your help!
How can a dial be "Omega factory original" yet it's "Professionally redone"???? If the finish is not original, the dial is not original. Typical eBay seller semantics - if the slab of metal is the original one then it's okay to say it's an original dial. The Don Draper Effect is still working. At $405, it's already more than any collector would pay for a redial, snazzy or not.
the seller is obviously a dealer of some sort, yet they do not provide a picture of the movement, I wonder why......
Pics are there, looks like an average condition 552, not pristine, but not too bad. Not a bad redial, at least they stuck to the original format (although black, as D said, the DD effect ). Good watch for a wearer (not a collector) and it's a bit pricey.
Look at all those low feedback n00bs pooching up the price by $10 and $20 increments. It'll be a shame when they join here and ask about their fancy new Seamaster just like they saw on Mad Men.
Wow, I'm glad I asked earlier. I decided not to bid, thanks to everyone's helpful comments. I think I'll stay away from the black-dial devilles for my first watch. It seems the market is a bit, um, overheated there. So if anyone sees a nice white/silver-faced deville around, please holler my way. Thanks everyone!
