For watches prior to mid-1970's.
LeCoultre on dial = US market
Jaeger-LeCoultre = Rest of the world.
My understanding is that when Jaeger-LeCoultre decided to enter the US market after WWII, the "Jaeger" name was deemed to be too German to be effectively marketed here.
In addition, many LeCoultre models were produced in US made gold-filled or 14K gold cases to save money on customs duties. A lot of watch companies did this, including Omega. Some steel cased LeCoultre watches were imported in Swiss made cases, since steel watch cases were only lightly taxed.
