I am new to zenith watches. Is this a desirable watch to collect? Does not say Zenith on he dial either. Is that a negative? Does the case look overpolished?
Here's something I found about it: http://www.vintagewatchstraps.com/birchandgaydon.php The case looks very polished, but I'd buy it for the dial alone. It's the nicest looking dial I've seen for a very long time. Zenith is good stuff. In line with Omega and Longines at least. Dibs if you don't want it. Edit: No idea if it's collectible or not though.
Birch and gaydon were jewellers and watchmakers to queen Victoria , bought out by aspreys between the wars I believe. ....mine is signed on the case and movement....have never seen one with zenith on the dial yet......earliest land and water ( dust and water proof). Is from mid ww1 that I've seen .....both black and white dials were available.....gold or silver cases.
Agreed with Ketiljo, the case looks overpolished. However, I also love the dial. Dibs +2 How much are they asking for it?
Dial is magic, id buy it for that alone. Ive no idea of the value or desirability of this model though. Mine says hi, its about to head of to the spa for a service and crystal polish
