It seems to me that the OP is an experienced collector of other items, and has probably developed a finely honed attention to detail.
I had a similar feeling when I commented about the OP's knack for taking the right kind of photos, that she was more well-informed than she was letting on. I see now that I was wrong in calling it a "knack" or thinking it was (polite) false modesty. It's nice to see that expertise and keen observational skill can serve a person well even in an entirely new field. It's none of my business but I hope she keeps and wears the watch—the story behind it is too priceless. It's like the watch found her.
