I have wanted a black dial three hander for a little while, but always been really nervous with all the redials hanging around. I am not sure about if this one is original, especially with the 'S' in Seamaster, but would really like the opinions of people here. This is unfortunately the best photo I have: upload_2018-2-20_18-4-48.png

    I would say it's original.
But doesn't look in great shape.
However could just be the photo.
I'd want better photos before buying.

This is the only other one of the face. It is coming up for auction tomorrow, I didn't think it looked too bad? What concerned you about the shape?

I think the concern here is for the overall condition of the watch.

The hands are missing the radium and are somewhat rusted. There are scratches on the bezel.

The dial is likely original, but looks to have been tampered with at one point. It have some radium in the notches of the hour markers.

I would not pay more than $200 to $300 for this watch, especially not knowing the condition of the movement.

    Money pit warning!

Thank you very much! I shall be avoiding it in that case.

I really should check the opinions here more often before buying something...

    Thanks for everyone who helped!

And for those who are curious, here is the condition of the movement.

Before the 25-30% premium. Ridiculous price.

    Wow.
This is nothing new, but it never fails to annoy me that there are so many people with more money than knowledge who are causing these maintained price hikes for people who actually know what's right and what's wrong when it comes to the details...

I'd have bought at that price without regret.

Art, since you and me seem to be the only two here who seem to like this watch at all, could you elaborate as to why you would have bought it?

I was there today at the auction house but only as a seller. I'm only 20 mins away so if you ever need additional photos let me know

Uncommon reference. Uncommon - and in my view, handsome - case. Black dial; presumably, most were dialed in white. Correct crown, likely correct hands, both almost certainly original. Clean movement (which may be found wanting after a watchmaker's inspection, but reassuring nonetheless). And cal 47x/50x parts are still widely available, a particularly salient point.

Most of all, it would be a fitting companion for this Seamaster Calendar [ref 2849 / US 6275] . . .

    . . . already in my collection.

    Cordially,

In my experience if a watch still has those ugly flex bracelets on it its usually untouched. Those are typically the first things changed when dealers/anyone trying to flip them for a buck get their hands on them

I have the same experience, In fact I would say about 1/2 of all the watches I buy have these flex bracelets on. But my god they chew the lugs up.
