I´ve been quietly looking for a while now for a nice 2914 Railmaster and came across this one.

    http://www.carsandwatches.com/omega-railmaster-2914-2/

    Railmaster-2914-2-Groot.jpg

I quite like the dial patina/damage but I don´t like the missing hand radium and the fact that the case back has no Seamonster or text. The seller says this is normal for early versions. This is a 2914-2, so is it normal?

I also don´t like the asking price of 8.5k Euro, at that money I would at least expect it to be fitted with a 7912/6 and better still a 7077/6

    What do we think here?

Am I being unrealistic or am I out of touch with 2914 pricing?

If anyone can point me to an honest original 2914 with or without correct bracelet that would be much appreciated

Given the condition (which is not great) I would say price is much too high...

I agree, price seems too high given condition. The dial and hands seem to have suffered moisture damage.

What do we think that a fair ( dealer ) price would be for this one?

For me the lack of engraving on the case back is also less desirable than one with, does this reflect in pricing?

The lack of engraving on the back would not put me off as the first models did not have an engraving - if you want a specimen with engraving you will have to chose a slightly younger one...

I do not know what was a reasonable dealer price - I can only tell you how much I were willing to spend for this piece - no more than 3000 euro
If you are a little patient you will find a nicer example...

Here is one of my 2914s - this one is a -3 with the original 7077 bracelet and #6 endlinks.

As usual, Mike has the most jaw-dropping, insanely good, near-mint examples of all the greatest references. Why are we all still trying to catch up - the big M cornered the market in Omega collectibles many years ago. Either that or he still has contacts denied to the uninitiated . . . ::facepalm1::

...and here's mine. And also a 2914-3.....with the engraving on the back.
I think you should be more than lucky to find an all original BA 2914 for Euro 3.000 ! Agreed that the CarsAndWatches example is a bit worn, spottet dial and missing parts of lume, but at least it has not been tampered with (from the looks of it). I would say between 5 og 6.000 euro in this condition.. at a dealer.

Yes 5.5k max in this condition was my feeling too. He´s not going to move that much from his asking price, so it´s game over here and time for me to move on.

    Thanks for the advice!

the first one is one of the railmasters, we sold many years ago.....for a fraction of the price. around US$ 4000 with the band, if i recall correctly. but i think, it had a faint engraving on the back. mike`s looks almost NOS; slighly too perfect for me........;just kidding! i have every issued and un-issued version incl. the white dial proto. all a lot more worn and used; still next to the speedy my favourite omega ever..... you need a lot of patience to find that model in good original condition. south america and the US is a good hunting ground. good luck ! kind regards. achim
