Hi OF! Hope you are all well
I have a Seamaster ref 14700 for consideration I would love to get your opinions on this one.

My own evaluation of it is as follows:

It is a ref. 14700 (gold capped version of ref. 14701) with cal. 562 and the serial number dates it to 1961.

So far as condition is concerned the dial is original although it has some dial spotting.
The hands are original but maybe worn?

The case appears not to be polished (I can see chamfered edges on the lugs) but it is quite worn though (due to the age of the watch?)

The crown is probably Omega generic.

The seller cannot confirm if the crystal is original (says he cant see the logo on crystal) so I am assuming it is generic.

The movement is okay (the pictures were taken at the watchmaker before cleaning). The watchmaker cleaned and oiled it since.

The bracelet is Omega but not original to the case I do not think.

    The price asked is $327.

    .
Photos not the best (incoming from the seller)
I have not purchased. Please your candid opinions are most welcome
    Thank you

Grab it. And put a nice leather band on it.

Thanks. Yes the bracelet does it no justice at all.

I would use it to wear but may I ask does it have any interest to collectors given condition?

    Other opinions most welcome.

It's a nice watch to wear and price is good but it's neither a rare reference or an exceptional condition piece, so its collector interest correlates with the number of replies this thread has got so far.

Ha Ha! Thanks for your advice.

    I'm just a newbie learner!
Is OF only concerned with collector pieces though?

No way. You can find everything here! And like @Rochete said: grab it for that price!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate it.

I want to learn as much as possible so I can make good purchase decisions and hopefully make more contributions to this forum! Love vintage Omegas!

Yes. Although there seems to be less love for goldplated omega's, I still love them. They wear great as dress watches to formal dinners, etc, and with a nice alligator brown strap they just look fantastic.

I'd save my $327 and if you like the reference 14700 start searching for a nice sharp steel cased example. The one you are busy with looks tired to me.

They are not highly sought after so for around $500 or $600 you should be able to find a better one.

Here's mine, it cost me around €550 ( sans bracelet ) two years ago.

If you buy it and intend to wear it, calculate the costs of a service in.

Thanks cristos71. You are probably right. Always better to invest in good examples. Hard to find them though. Requires patience I guess.

Well the 14700 isn't the gold capped version of the 14701, where did you hear that - the seller?

The 14700 is the non-date with a cal 552 and the 14701 is the date version of the 14700, as you note with a cal 562 inside, so actually you have a watch there with an incorrect case back.

I got that info from a previous OF post. It is the correct case. Note that 14701 is stamped just above the 14700 on the inside caseback. I have seen the same example in google searches too.

The 14700 did come with cal 562 . It is referenced in the vintage omega database.

I think you are mistaken there, 14700 is a no date reference and the 562 has a date.
