Hi I have decided to give a vintage Omega to my beautiful wife as I am slowly convincing her that maybe a vintage piece is a bit classy and adds something emotional vs a new cheap watch Found this Omega 600 that looks really clean, but would like a second pair of eyes on it. Never seen this dial on a 600 before for example. Do you think all looks genuine with it? Br Per
These dials are real, and you found one with a beautiful structured background. Seamaster 600 came in many dial variants. Now go and buy before I do!
A very nice example. Crown may be a replacement but it's not a big issue. If you don't want it, let me know where it's for sale.
Yes I was also a bit unsure about the crown to be honest. But as you say not a huge issue and can always be replaced to original model if I find one.
Dials correct but the crown isn't and I'm not sure about those hands (but take that with a pinch of salt as I'm viewing on a phone). Here's one back from Simon Freese last week ... and, as a shameless plug, it is up for sale.
Ok... so maybe hands are not genuine? They do look a bit different from the "normal" ones but also the dial is a bit different so...
Although I'm far from an expert on these, I thought the hands were not consistent with most other Omega hands, so I did a google search and could find no other Seamaster 600's with hands quite like those on your watch.. Is this just another variation? BTW, the dial is very attractive Best wishes, Tom
So to summarize it looks like a good buy! All looks ok except maybe the crown, but I can live with that for now at least. Hopefully then the dial is not refurbished as was pointed out. It does look very clean; maybe even too clean. But might just pull the trigger anyway.
Crown's are about the easiest part to source and change (other that a glass, perhaps?). I had initially thought the numerals on yours were the same gold as the example I showed above and that the black was an effect of the light. If they are black, the hands are likely correct as well. Edit: whether or not it's a good buy does come down to price. Care to share the asking and service history etc?
Well in terms of price I don't know yet as it is on an auction site. What would a fair price be you think? The watch is serviced about 6 months ago.
Also... have been googling extensively for a while now, but cannot find a single 600 with the same dial in order to judge if dial/hands/numerals are correct. Is it really unique or just fake? Anybody has any idea on how to narrow down on this specific specification of 600 to find pictures or descriptions of it in order to judge if all looks genuine?
Noted. Found a few more pics of the exact same watch as well, but struggle to see if the seconds hand is black, gold or steel But anyway... like the watch so will try to steal if off the auction. Thanks for all the help guys!
Just asked the seller and actually the case is lightly polished during last service. Still looks fairly sharp to me though. Would you say that this kills the value in your eyes? I have personally never bought a polished watch before.
There were a number of dials fitted to this watch. I've not seen one the same as your but I have no reason to doubt its originality. Lightly polished case? There's nothing more been taken off than you would find with normal wear. Zooming in, yes the facets on the lugs are soft but not unduly so. Below is a photo of a similar watch I took yesterday. This watch has not been polished at all. It has been worn and it is 54 years old but it has also been taken care of. Compare for yourself.
