Hi everyone, I'm wondering if a swap of a GMT, with only 'Swiss' dial, for a NIB Ultraman ST2 is a good move? I don't think that my watch has been polished, but it has definitely seen wrist time. Insert is fading nicely, and is well on its way to pink. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Sounds good to me. You are coming out on top in that I think. Edit - I assume you are receiving the GMT here and offloading the ultraman...
Add me to the confused list as well.. the Ultraman is NIB, but you said your watch has seen wrist time...so you're trading your GMT for Ultraman??
Sorry, for clarification, I was considering swapping my used GMT pictured above for a NIB ultraman. If there is a difference, what is a monetary value of the GMT over the UM?
I would keep the GMT 100% if it's all about value/future value. For pure enjoyment, it's a question of taste but I would trade plus some cash putting more weight on the GMT.
Sell the gmt. Get good money for it. Then negotiate the price of the UM. Plenty of them being sold. You’ll get a better deal paying cash.
Such different watches! I personally would try to find a way to have them both. I know. Probably not helpful. Just realize that if you get the Ultraman, you're going to need one of these to go with it.:
I guess it also depends what you want to do with the watch. The 16700 will continue to be fun to wear, whereas I assume the UM would just stay packaged in the box as an investment.
It still bothers me to this day...I was on a work trip, and woke up at 5:15 am EDT. I ended up surfing around for a while, and checked in on this forum and saw that the UM had been released. I logged in, and had a very low number in the cart, but couldn't check out. I managed to get 2 more reserved, but couldn't get payment through. I tried on my laptop on chrome, IE and Mozilla, and on my Ipad through Safari as well. No luck. I've owned my GMT for a long time, and have far less invested in it than current market values. If I went through with the trade, I'd be into the UM for a lot lower than retail. (my rationalization process). However, as Dan S correctly points out, I would have reservations wearing a nib watch. Hmmm...more thought required.
If this one falls through PM me. Haven't worn my ST1 or ST2 yet and that GMT would see a lot of wrist time. Anyone got a sub they want to swap. ( modernish as it will see water a lot )
The most important point that often gets overlooked is which do you prefer? As long as the prices are in the right ball park that's the choice.
