    Hey everyone,

My local watchmaker happens to have a stash of old Omega dress watches and offered to sell me one for $450, cleaning and overhaul included.

This was the nicest one of the bunch:

Its a 60's Seamaster with a Cal 550 movement, case number is LL-6287-1. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the minute and second hands are hollow - you can see the dial right through. My watchmaker says its all original but I just wanted to run it by you guys... Thoughts? :)

There used to be lume in those hollow spots. If it bothers you it can be replaced, and some watchmakers even stain the lume to make it look aged. It's a front loading case made for the US market. Nice watch. Those linen dials are sharp in person.

You can't argue much about the price if full overhaul is included.

Looks good to me too. I'd say go for it at that price.

Interesting.. I always thought the spaces for the lumes were were engraved rather than hollow. Learned something new. It would bother me if these hands were non-original, but with your input I feel more confident. The dial looks pristine and it has the an original crystal too! My watchmaker went through his old inventory after I brought two vintage Omegas for service, and cut me a deal on this one. I'm getting addicted to this, lol :D

Hold on to your wallet. Many of us started with similar watches from the 60's - Seamasters, Seamaster De Villes, Seamaster Cosmics.....

Exactly. And now you can find me out in front of the Tourneau shop on 5th Ave offering to engage in unspeakable acts in exchange for a busted up IWC :p

It looks great. If your watch guy can't relume the hands, he should be able to order them from his supplier for around $30 or so.
