I saw this Omega Cioccolatone for sale by a local collector for USD $1350. I like it because it is a bit unusual in design, Reference CK 3950. The seller claims it to have a caliber 342 movement, but there is no photo. There are a few questions in my mind on this one:

    • In my limited experience, the dial looks original, but there are not too many examples of this out there to be seen when searching. Anyone have a different opinion on the dial?
    • I know that one basic check that needs to be performed is the check of the reference and movement to make sure it is a 'valid' combination. How do you do this? Is there a book or reference website somewhere?
    • Is this a good value?

Quite a confused watch, non-lume indices, incorrect lumed hands and T-Swiss Made-T dial.

It is a re-dial, this ref is an early 1950's model and if there ever was a lumed version of this ref it would have been with radium, therefore there would be no T's on the dial as these stand for tritium which was introduced in the early 60's and the T's on the dial were brought in a few years after that.

The dial has been re-printed, the non-lumed indices look correct which would make the lumed hands incorrect as lumed hands go with a lumed dial, and non-lumed hands go with a non-lumed dial

Edit: I think @cristos71 covered it, no need to duplicate info.

The Omega vintage database gives information on references and movements (though it is not exhaustive). Here is the entry for your reference: https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-automatic-omega-ck-3950

Will leave other questions for more experienced forumers, though I will note that black dials should always be examined extra-carefully, and that the T (for Tritium) seems too early for a watch from the early 50s.

That's very handy. Do you need to register? I cannot find a search function anywhere that returns that link...

I agree regarding the dial but the statement in bold is not always true.
There are many watches with luminous hands and non-lumed dial

The title page should look like this:

Put “3950” in the Search by Reference box and see what you get.

I'd say that "many" might be an overstatement. Regarding Omega, I don't know of a single 1940s and forward reference where it isn't true.

I agree, but my statement was in a general sense and not related to Omega :)

    Mine as well :)
I'd say that it is very rare in general and non-existant when talking Omega.
