Opinion on Omega Constellation

Hi all

Further to a very similar post I made yesterday, I'm here again asking the brain trust for a view on an Omega Constellation. I'm on the hunt for a 30th birthday present (it's actually for me, but my fiancé knows nothing about watches so has asked me to do the hunting - not that I know much either).

Photos below. Here's my amateur attempt at analysis:

The reference number and movement match those in Desmond's guide.

Nothing jumps out at me about the dial as being wrong, but I don't really know where to start with that.

The stars on the case back make me think maybe it's been overpolished.

General condition of the dial looks ok to me.

Crown looks ok?

What do people think? Is everything factory? What would be a fair price for this watch?

Thanks!

Jonathan

Looks good to me. The pictures aren't fully sharp though, you might need to look more closely at the lugs to check for wear or brassing. Though the cap is pretty thick so brassing is unlikely unless it has been over polished.

It looks in good unserviced condition, which mean you may need to immediately spend a further ~£200/$250/$250 minimum

To turn it on its head to the normal way this works, why don't you tell us the asking price and we will tell you if it is worth it.

Thanks Padders - very helpful. In terms of the price, it's sitting at £388 on eBay at the moment. 27 bids with seven days to go so probably going to the moon.

It's a nice watch and looks legit. The spots on the dial may hold the price back a bit.

You might be right about the price, but it isn't perfect. The dotty dial and suspicion of lug polishing may put some seasoned collectors off but it looks a decent original piece. My dog leg has a spotty dial and I love it so it wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't like to give you a specific figure to work with but if it goes for less than £850* someone got a bargain IMO...

* I am factoring the service cost I mentioned earlier into that figure, your problem is, some of those you are bidding against don't, they outbid you then find out the hard way that all old watches need servicing but that by then of no benefit to you!

I like it. It might just be the photos but I think the lugs show a little bit of evidence of over polishing, I can't clearly see the edges on the lugs. I'm not sure what the prices are like in the UK, here in the US I'd expect something like this to sell for $700 - $900.
