My apologies if this seems a daft question, but how can you tell whether a watch has onyx or black paint markers? I read that the onyx markers are on older constellations whilst the paint is on the newer ones. Is it a simple as that? If so when did this change happen? Thanks for your help.

How fortuitous, I just received a 14900 in the post and was admiring the inlays. Interesting to know they painted them on later.

The movement may come from a C case.

I don't think so. It's a one-owner watch and had apparently been in a drawer for the last 20 years, unused. Here's a link for an auction with a pretty similar case: http://www.lauritz.com/da/auktion/vintage-omega-constellation/i3972346/#

It's also a watch delivered to Denmark originally and has a serial number only 70 away from mine and also has a onyx marker dial. Of course, both dials may be service replacements, who knows?

10 years ago I did not see any 168.005 powered by 564 in 26, 27 mil with onyx markers.
    Now I see some.
Ten years later, there will be a lot of them and who knows?

Unless you where the one owner that put it in a draw you can not use the above as a defence of anything ( not that you need it)

Find 20 with the same and I am,maybe with you but a seller and one other I'm with the GURU,s

    Hi Hoi

did you mean that the change was during 24 million or at 24 million?
I have a 24,79xxx 168.010 564 dome dial that (I'm fairly sure) has Onyx inserts -the gold is wrapped around the black insert
-and all pink to match the gold-cap case and hands -so unlikely to be a matched case/dial

Its easy enough to find out with these, pull an extract on the serial and if it matches we know its good, if it comes back with a C-Case Hoi's dataset gets another point added to it.

Oh, none taken at all! All I tried to point out was that swapping movements and such would probably be more likely in the later years of a watch's lifetime, where parts are harder to come by. I do, however, think that it is notable that two 168.005s with serials just 70 (!) apart share the same anamoly.
